The Hawkeyes have fended off elimination for the second straight day, and will now face Minnesota for the Big Ten Championship tonight around 7 pm. I knew two things about Hawkeye Baseball before this weekend
1) When I was a kid my neighbor’s son pitched for them.
2) They are seldom, if ever, very good.
The only time I have seen an Iowa baseball game was when they played a game (exhibition, I think) against UNI in my hometown.
So yes, it is time for Iowa to rule in baseball.

My daughter's first exposure to Iowa sports was baseball 2 years ago
then it morphed into basketball (2 games) and finally football last fall (she’s only 5!)
Good start
I was 9 before I got to go to my first Hawkeye event (football), but my siblings were progressively younger when they got to go to their first games.

From what I hear on the radio, we should have our #2 pitcher going.
but don’t ask me what his name is.
Zach Robertson, perhaps?
Just looked at stats, and he was the second pitcher listed. 7-3 4.09 ERA.

UGH
I just turned it back to BTN in time to see Ohio St beat the Hawks on a last second TD in Kinnick (early ’90s, I think)

All I really know about this show is
I would do unspeakable things to Charissa Thompson
by shada's revenge on May 29, 2010 6:29 PM CDT up reply actions
That would be
the 1990 season. As a 10 year old, that game absolutely broke my heart. It was made worse by my punk-ass cousin who was staying with us at the time getting in my face and taunting me after that TD…and he wasn’t even aware of the rules…fucker.
Less memorable than Sam Okey's Hawkeye career.

I hope you beat him up.
"I want to be a cowboy. I don't want to be a panda. Pandas are boring, stupid and boring. Bad panda!"
As fate would have it
he got the shit kicked out of him by a bunch of my friends (bruised his ribs and sent him to the hospital) because he brought the same attitude to a pick-up football game (again, he didn’t know the rules). Now he’s a scary roider in Houston shacking up with girls that we’re pretty sure are with him by “appointment”…
Less memorable than Sam Okey's Hawkeye career.

We need to get Sash, Clayborn, and Hunter to the game
Minnesota has not been able to score on them in a long long time.

with a name like Ace he has to be a great pitcher
by Clayborns beard on May 29, 2010 6:28 PM CDT up reply actions
I think he'd make for a better fielder than pitcher.

Hanging breaking ball hit 657 feet
followed by 21 consecutive strike outs
by shada's revenge on May 29, 2010 6:52 PM CDT up reply actions
YES.
Absolutely. Make it happen.
Master of the convoluted IOWA cheers!
by EnergizerHawk on May 29, 2010 8:53 PM CDT up reply actions
Well that's a strange start
3 pitch strike out, but strike three goes to the back stop, so Minnesota has a runner on 1st
by shada's revenge on May 29, 2010 6:51 PM CDT up reply actions
Back to back two out doubles
Minnesota leads 1-0, Hawks coming to bat

I don't have a clue for sure
But I used to set up tournaments for (part of) a living, and I could make an educated guess: either coin toss or they would give the winners bracket team the choice. Minnesota may have chosen away because, a) if they win this game it doesn’t matter and b) because if Iowa would happen to force another game, they would be the home team. In short, this game doesn’t mean a lot to Minnesota because they would have another chance

No
They beat Michigan in 11 last night in the first semi, setting up our semi-final match up in the loser’s bracket against the LOLverines.

Rampage vs. Rashad
Who ya got? (Sorry, the early parts of baseball games bore the hell out of me)
by shada's revenge on May 29, 2010 7:06 PM CDT reply actions
I don't know man
I want him to win, but I think if Rashad can get him to the ground he could make it a really boring fight and frustrate Rampage. Plus Rampage has been off for awhile, and the last time someone tried to fight him really technically (Forrest Griffin), Rampage couldn’t get anything going.
by shada's revenge on May 29, 2010 7:16 PM CDT up reply actions
That said,
I hope Rampage body slams him through the cage floor

On a different/related note,
How awesome was Liddell’s reaction to hearing that Ortiz was pulling out of their fight?
That was the first episode I had seen this season
I haven’t been watching because I hate Tito so much I can’t watch(even though I love Chuck). I watched it just because I had heard it was going to air this week. Suffering through one episode paid off when that happened. It was hilarious.

The prelims are on Spike tonight
They hadn’t done that for the last couple

"I'm not. I'm going to go punch him in the face"
by shada's revenge on May 29, 2010 7:29 PM CDT up reply actions
To be fair to Tito (not that he deserves it)
having neck surgery would make most anyone pull out of a fight.
Yeah, but wasn't it shortly after that was filmed
that he got pinched for beating up Jenna Jameson?
by shada's revenge on May 29, 2010 7:36 PM CDT up reply actions
I meant to add
I wonder if it was actually something domestic that he was trying to cover up
by shada's revenge on May 29, 2010 7:37 PM CDT up reply actions
Ah
I didn’t realize there was that much of a delay. Didn’t realize the surgery had already happened. Yeah, you would have to pull out of a fight if that was the case. I wish they would stop trying to match up coaches that are going to fight each other immediately after. Someone always ends up pulling out.
by shada's revenge on May 29, 2010 7:40 PM CDT up reply actions
Sounds like White may have made Ortiz quit coaching.
He’s the first one to pull out during taping. Rampage pulled out of the fight initially to film the A-Team
Did he pull out of coaching though?
The previews for the next episode had him in them. Also, before that Matt Serra pulled out before his fight with (I think) Matt Hughes.
by shada's revenge on May 29, 2010 7:44 PM CDT up reply actions
They're going to send him home and Rich Franklin will finish the season.
Tito gets to corner Yaeger and then he’ll be out.
by The Mexican't on May 29, 2010 7:56 PM CDT up reply actions
yes
much so… probably a by-product of this being our 3 game in 2 days
by shada's revenge on May 29, 2010 7:16 PM CDT up reply actions
Plus it has to be hard to get refocussed
after a dramatic victory 45 minutes prior
by shada's revenge on May 29, 2010 7:17 PM CDT up reply actions
Wow
would someone please field a ball cleanly?
by shada's revenge on May 29, 2010 7:18 PM CDT reply actions
I am more concerned about the gloves
right now. Bats will come around. The hitters are too hot in the last couple weeks to go quietly but if they don’t get anybody out it won’t matter
by shada's revenge on May 29, 2010 7:30 PM CDT up reply actions
Yeah they do need a spark
They look tired and kinda like they don’t have much left in the tank. I wonder if they could beat Minnesota twice even if they were fresh though

I missed it
Was responding to your last comment about Tito.

Getting out of this inning
still down three would be huge. He’s thrown a lot of pitches though

Wow terrible baserunning
Thank you Gophers. How did the guy not score when they had the other one in the run down

1st baseman was smart and looked at him while he chased the idiot to second.
Very well done by the D.
WHAT A PLAY!!
Guess the D has woken up, now it’s time for the bats

Halladay is three outs from a perfect game

No but I was checking my fantasy team
I have a couple of Marlins, including Josh Johnson who pitched tonight, and noticed that there were all zeroes on the Marlins side
by shada's revenge on May 29, 2010 8:17 PM CDT up reply actions
Nice play
Good defense since they dug themselves a whole in the first 2 innings
by shada's revenge on May 29, 2010 8:28 PM CDT reply actions
Yeah I haven't been watching the game either
Back to the prelims for me too. I may be leaving to go watch the PPV at a bar

Hawkeyes down to their last 9 outs
Minnesota has blown it open 7-0 in the bottom of the 7th. We got ’em right where we want ’em.
by shada's revenge on May 29, 2010 8:54 PM CDT reply actions
Well they were tired and overmatched (IMO)
and now it’s getting ugly
