Around SBN: Is Adebayor About To Become A Full-Time Spur?

In my keeping up with Michigan baseball, I found that our finale against Iowa made it into Business Week magazine. Apparently, scientists at jNWU have developed robots that take in all the stats and pump out perfectly spelled newspaper articles. SKYNET is certain to follow!

No

Is the answer to the question. Nor is anyone working on ESPN.

But then what would I watch on my lunch break? Lifetime?

Sportswriters Need Not Apply

Most of those guys need to pull a gig on radio or TV so they somewhat get recognized. In reality traditional print media sucks and most of the writers are on the team payroll (what’s that loud, sucking sound I hear?)

Hate Northwestern, Hate OSU, Michigan State, Michigan too...you get the picture.

Well, somebody has to have access and keep people accountable.

Could you imagine how little true info we would get out of the UI athletic department if we didn’t have guys like Dochterman around? Hlas and Morehouse are obviously decent-to-very-good.

While I think Pat Harty shows no redeeming value as an actual writer about sports, what would we do if we couldn’t make fun of him?

However, I’m fine with getting rid of the likes of Sean Keeler whenever possible.

The only way that newspaper sports sections (and maybe newspapers in general) will survive is if they have blogs with interesting extras like the Gazette’s sports section does. Otherwise, younger people will get all their news from online, and everybody older will quit reading and just watch TV. (I don’t know about you, but I am seeing a lot more baby-boomers whining about how bad local newspapers are, and sometimes even canceling their subscriptions).

I've sentenced boys younger than you to the gas chamber. Didn't want to do it. I felt I owed it to them.

Oh yeah, one other thing.

Local Newspapers need to do a good (or better than they are right now) job of covering high school and small college sports locally. They are one of the few sources that you could get detailed info about those things, but often times they underwhelm me with their coverage. Of course, I’m whining about organizations that are being cut to the bone (newspapers), and their coverage of a giant number of sports and institutions.
