While the image of Coug on the break is pretty funny

I think the idea that he can’t work in McCaffery’s system is a little overblown. Generally you don’t have all five dudes sprinting down the court on a fast break. He can rebound, outlet pass (which he’s good at!) and then either lumber down and set up in the half court if the break doesn’t work or trail and set up for a three.

by NorseHawk on Apr 10, 2010 1:32 PM CDT reply actions

Really, it shouldn’t be assumed that anyone on the current roster “can’t” make it in a new system until proven otherwise. I guess that just further bums me out about this flood of transfers/decommittals.

Is there actually a possibility that he decides to train hard this summer?

I mean, he could conceivably shed a few, and learn to max out his skill set. Is he going to be our best player next year? No. But hopefully the Fran Plan for the Man from Sioux Land involves getting him in shape and using him effectively. The thing that appeals most to me and gives me hope after the recent deffectiongasm is Fran’s ability to coach to his players instead of forcing players into a prescribed system.
