LOLophers to be LOLooking for a new basketball coach?

Has anyone heard that Tubby Smith is going to take the Auburn job?  Dennis Dodd from CBS sports is reporting that following Minnesota's exit in the tournament he will headed out of GooferLand and headed back to the south, y'all.  In a related story, Jamie Pollard was not aware of this rumor but was seen pouting, kicking a can with his hands in his pockets while a single tear ran down his cheek.

I think it's more likely

that Inconsolable was walking off UNI’s win in the tournament. From what I’ve seen so far, if he and the Clowns aren’t happy so far with Rhoads, they truly are Inconsolable. McDermott, on the other hand, has him a bit testy, based upon his letter posted a week or so ago.

I can't believe

all this time I had no idea there was a dude at UNI named Lucas O’REAR. awesome. He needs to be a Hawkeye. STAT.

Auburn would be a massive pay cut

for Tubby. He ain’t going to Auburn. That is a chump change program. Lebo was making…and I am not shitting you…$175K base salary. His total package was valued at $600K to $700K because of the shoe contract but they are not big time. Also, that new stadium they are building is multiuse and will hold all of 9,000 people. The SEC plays basketball as a hobby outside of Kentucky. Even Florida is back to where is belongs.

Agreed,

Tubby isn’t stupid. He knows what it’s like to be under-appreciated at a school with absurd expectations (UK) and to be under-appreciated at a school with no expectations (UGa). Minnesota cares about basketball, has an urban location (which generally proves advantageous from a basketball recruiting standpoint) and a gym that, while ancient, provides a massive home court advantage. I think Tubby is grateful to be at ‘Sota and won’t be going anywhere any time soon.

Auburn is also rumored to be willing to shell out big money for a coach

If they pony up big money like they are rumored to be willing to spend, Tubby would go. He’s allegedly upset that he’s already been told that he won’t get a pay raise, and that his $100k bonus last year got paid 2 months late. I think Oregon would be a better fit for him than Auburn. Their new arena is pretty nice and you know they’ve got the money to pay him something Minnie can’t match.

Yeah

But the problem with any Oregon job is you have to sign your life over to Big Uncle Phil and let him go nuts with your uniforms. No self-respecting man will agree to that.

If Tubby is at the money stage of his career

then Minnesota should hope he leaves. For some reason, I see the man as believing he can get Minny to a final four. It’s a tricky situation…Auburn is a crappy job though, no matter how you look at it.

I recall Auburn as being preseason number 1 in 1999 or 2000.

And no one there really cared.

I kinda hoped Iowa would hire Tubby instead of Lick. Didn’t happen for some reason though. Perhaps I should have called Bloodpunch up and told him what I thought.
