Masoli plead guilty to burglary after having lied to Coach Kelly earlier about the matter.

Of course it remains to be seen
Whether “the entire season” means, you know, all 12 games. Because Blount was also suspended for the entire season but somehow that meant 8 games.
As with politics, it’s not the crime that gets you, it’s the coverup.
I ate the blue ones ... they taste like burning.
Indeed, we'll see how well Kelly sticks to his convictions.
This will be a test of Kelly’s integrity. A key factor here is that Masoli lied directly to Kelly.
Masoli is gone for the entire season
He could get away with an 7-8 game suspension if it would have been just taking the stuff but then lying about it directly to the head coach of a program that is having discipline issues – not a good idea. Blount had a momentary lapse and paid for it, Masoli screwed up multiple times and showed premeditation. Kelly is going to stick with this one.
Why he didn’t just ask a booster or his agent for the stuff is beyond me.

However
they are probably going to let him redshirt this season – thus, he will lose no eligibility in the long run

It’s somewhat possible that he could not win his starting job back.
Scenario 1: He’s replaced by Nate Costa. If this happens, he’ll almost definitely win his old job back in 2011.
Scenario 2: He’s replaced by Darron Thomas. If that happens, it’s much less clear to me that he’ll win his job back in 2011. Every indication we’ve seen from Thomas suggests that he’s a great passer (which is almost inarguably Masoli’s weakness), and if Thomas were to grow into the role at all in 2010, I think it’s his.
But we shall see. As HoyaGoon mentioned, there is… precedent for something happening earlier than 2011. (As a Duck, I sincerely hope it doesn’t.)

What's the Oregon fanbase view of the Ducks and Kelly?
ProbablyMonty — How are people feeling about the Oregon program these days. Are people looking at the off-field issues as a ‘blip’, or is Kelly feeling more heat to ‘clean up’ than he is to win. The Hawkeyes had a spate of issues a few years back, but Ferentz proved his cleancut image by taking strong action (meaning we let a couple talented players go packing).
BTW — I’m a Hawkeye, but I also graduated from Grant in Portland.

The feeling of the Oregon fans is generally that we’ve had an unfortunate run of incidents, but that it’s not much deeper than that. What most Duck fans have been expecting of Kelly is to (a) punish the guilty and to (b) send a message that this sort of behavior will not be tolerated.
For the most part, the mood around here is that Kelly’s done what needs to be done. We’re kind of collectively denying the idea that there’s a duality between cleaning up and winning, although it’s certainly possible that on some level a choice between the two will need to be made.
But yes, “In Kelly We Trust” is still the motto of most Eugene residents.

Commonality Between Iowa and Oregon
PM — Thanks for the overview of the mood in Eugene. One thing we now share in common is the hunt for new basketball coaches. Should be interesting. I just read a story on espn that DePaul is saying they’ll spend whatever it takes to get the coach they want. Thanks Demons!

I vote that we just trade! I’d already learned the names of the Oregon and Iowa coaches, and I don’t want to learn new ones.

3 million a season
won’t make Ray Meyer any less dead.
Less memorable than Sam Okey's Hawkeye career.
