Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

Jamie Pollard slowly imploding

via 1460am KXNO's website.  They're the big sports station here in the DSM area.  This was pretty much all the local guys talked about all day today.  Whether he's right or wrong, this is definitely something to be thought and not said in an email.

So few of us are truly real fans...

Pollard forgets that by being a public university, and by us being tax paying citizens, we all really support the debacle he is slowly deconstructing in Ames.

I like to think...

that, even though I have never dodged any taxes, I am still NOT supporting anything Jaime Pollard is involved in.

I've sentenced boys younger than you to the gas chamber. Didn't want to do it. I felt I owed it to them.

I live in Illinois so

Of course, I do live in Illinois so feel free to tell me how you’re rubber and I’m glue……

Pretend

I am placing a large bag of flaming dogshit on your doorstep, ringing the doorbell, and running away. Also, there is a landmine at the bottom of the bag.

In 100 years, we'll all be dead.

"Don't put it out with your boot!"

I’m with chitownhawkeye, I’m more than happy to support a program that continues to lend itself to hilarity and overall badness. By the way, TEXaco seems cool enough, but don’t we as a fanbase deserve an interloper who supports a more amusing, semi-obscure Texas school? I mean, the SFA Lumberjacks are relatively unknown, but the UT-SA Roadrunners are waaaaay funnier.

Less memorable than Sam Okey's Hawkeye career.

While I appreciate the increased hilarity of the Roadrunners

I am not an alum of UT-SA, therefore I cannot support them to the level I cheer for the Jacks, regardless of their relative unknown-ness. I guess I will just have to settle for not being as funny as I could be.

PS I LOVE the fighting Zookers, they are far more humorous than any Roadrunners or Lumberjacks.

If Illinois can keep Ron around long enough

I wonder if they would officially change their name to the “Zookers” in homage to the man who has brought more, er, notoriety (?) to their program than anyone in recent memory.

Just an aside, TEXaco, we’ve been through this; I’m required to have a token “rivalry” with all things having to do with Nacodoches in a gesture of solidarity with my Tyler-based in-laws. Let’s be honest, though…Nacodoches is far more concerned with Longview than anything having to do with Tyler. Now if that town started to get in into the rose business…

Less memorable than Sam Okey's Hawkeye career.

Actually

Nacogdoches really has nothing against Longview (or Tyler for that matter). Now Lufkin… that’s another matter entirely. Anyhow, Nacogdoches High School colors are black and gold, so I think that earns the town exempt status for ridicule. Wait… it’s Nacogdoches… ridicule away, because when has Nac ever been competitive with Tyler (or Lufkin, or Longview, or fill in the blank) in ANYTHING.

by TEXaco on Mar 15, 2010 1:20 PM CDT up reply actions

Well UT-Tyler

doesn’t compete in D-I, so you’ve got them there. And while Nacogdoches may not dislike Tyler, according to my family, the feeling is not mutual. Frankly, I don’t care at all and the whole thing makes me smirk.

Less memorable than Sam Okey's Hawkeye career.

However, you do have Bruce Weber

Given that this is basketball season you could throw that in our faces.

When I was a 20 year old college student

I got 100% of my taxes refunded back to me, therefore I paid none. Wouldn’t be shocked if this kid was the same way.

Damn, since I moved to Iowa for grad school the state just can't get enough.

Somehow, the State of Iowa never gets enough, all of my fellow eggheads have to give some of our federal return to the State of Iowa. It’s kind of like paying part of your own salary in a way. I guess that also makes me a Cyclone and Panther booster (since they still get some general fund money if I do remember correctly).

They do

I don’t know what it is from UNI, but for ISU it’s like 5% of their budget.

Not exactly sure what their operating budget is. In 2007 it was about $33 mil, Pollard said a number like $42 mil in an email about raising funds. (BTW, I realize these numbers are low as hell, and laughable. But let’s try to get past that for this)

5% of $42 mil is $2.1 mil.

In the great state of Iowa, there are 3 million people. Obviously some of these people are kids, and do not pay taxes. According to Wiki, 77% of the 3 million people are over 18. So about 2.3 million people in Iowa are over 18. Now, not everyone has a job, and as I posted before, some are students that likely don’t pay Iowa Income tax (get refunded the whole amount that they pay if they work).

If even I went really conservative and said only 50% of the 18 and older people pay some Iowa State Income Taxes, that would be about 1.15 million people splitting the $2.1 mil. That’s less than $2 per person. Obviously it’s needed by ISU, but I think people overestimate how much their tax dollars go towards this.

But I agree it sucks. I get taxed on my Federal Returns as well. But that’s a whole different topic, beyond the scope of SBNation.
