Ah, yes, THE NAKED BOOTLEG.
One of the best plays ever.

Fact.
Someone we know to be in no way linked with said bootleg because it was called on the 5 yd. line of the opposition instead of the Hawks’ own endzone:
Ken.O’Keefe.
Less memorable than Sam Okey's Hawkeye career.

Fact.
Long was hurt the week before and shouldn’t have been playing v. MSU. But they were losing and Hayden put him in the 2nd half.
Fact.
I was hoping Ken O’Keefe could make enough mistakes to lose his job without Iowa losing any more games so that Chuck Long could come back to Iowa as the OC after he was fired by SD St. No kidding.
Less memorable than Sam Okey's Hawkeye career.

Still scares the shit out of me
when he puts that ball over his head at the six – I remember my dad screaming “Tuck it Chuck – tuck it!!!” at the TV. Good times.

Awesome
Chuck probably deserves as much credit for putting Iowa football back on the map as Hayden does. Bill Snyder, too.
In 100 years, we'll all be dead.
I don't think enough credit is given to
Amerigo Vespucci for putting Iowa on the map in the first place, albeit in a rather vague, half-assed sort of way.
Less memorable than Sam Okey's Hawkeye career.

Seriously
Is the guy hugging him after the bootleg TD Phil Haddy? Has he actually been around forever? Is he lurking everywhere?

Ah, the 1982 Peach Bowl
My Junior year. Harmon wasn’t running the ball but catching it instead. And #5, Dave Moritz. We have had great receivers under Ferentz, but I have a special place for Moritz and Robert Smith. Tennessee had Willie Gault but I don’t remember him having any big plays.
Atlanta was a great town to go to a bowl. Open container. Game was New Year’s Eve. We got back downtown from the afternoon game and the celebration was on. I remember shaking champagne bottle number 2 before getting in an elevator at the Sheraton. Walked in to an elevator car lined with unhappy looking 6’4 guys. Tennessee linemen. We shut up and stood quietly, but the cork blew and sprayed everyone. Madly pushed elevator buttons for the next floor and ran off before we were killed.
At about 2 a.m., running to one last party, here in the hallway is Zabel, apparently blind drunk, leaning on a wall and feeling his way down the hallway. “jimmeyy!!” “Z!!!” “How ’bout them Hawks!” The response: a weak acknowledgement and “MMMPH”
Haven’t seen video from that in a long time. Thanks.
