Whose Seat is Hotter? McDermott or Lickliter
With all the talk about if Lickliter is the answer, does he deserve an extension, etc. I thought about something that could give us some much needed schadenfreude, and the Cyclones are usually good for that. Sure, they beat us in basketball this year, but I can't imagine a team in the state (or Big-12) underachieving relative to their hype this year. We all know the situation at CHA (or at Welsh-Ryan tonight, man that sucked). For those of you who don't know here's a quick run-down of what I'm talking about in Ames:
Craig Brackins decided not to declare for the NBA draft last summer, touching off a massive love-fest and hype extravaganza in Ames and Des Moines. I lived in DSM last summer and was thoroughly annoyed with it.
Lucca Steiger decides not to return to Europe for a pro career.
McDermott was expected to have his best team and the best team in recent memory at ISWho.
The reality is that they aren't that much better than Iowa, but with much more alleged talent.
So whose seat is hotter and why?

How do you quantify the difference between magma and molten metal?
Basically you burst into flame when getting close enough to either one.
Neither is getting fired but I think we’re looking at record lows in actual attendance for Hilton and Carver next year. Let me tell you Cyclone fans are pissed or extremely disappointed at this point. I am one, I would know.
Lost to Colorado today.
Anyway, Mac has a contract that is longer than Lick, I think, so he’s safe.
USA #1
But Pollard's so good at buying out contracts now!
Just think of all the experience he’s had with the process.
"I want to be a cowboy. I don't want to be a panda. Pandas are boring, stupid and boring. Bad panda!"
I have chatted with a friend of mine about this very topic.
I think both are safe for at least one more year. My friend thinks Mac should be gone after this year (assuming they don’t luck into some miracle NCAA berth by winning the B12 tourney.)
They have Mizzou in Hilton, and @KSU left. I see both as losses for ISU, but even if they manage to win both, they are 16-15 overall and 5-11 in the conference. Now, they probably have to win 2 or 3 games to get into the NIT. Maybe they find a way to get into the CBI (or whatever it is called now), by getting to .500 or just over.
Like I said, I don’t see them making any postseason. I don’t think ISU would fire him, but unless he does something next year (probably win a game in the NIT, or make the NCAA), then he probably deserves to be fired. The question will be, can Pollard afford to swallow his pride and actually get rid of a coach instead of just lose one to another school?
Obviously, Lick’s seat is hot with the fans, but I see the U of I giving him at least next year to make some strides. He may not have to make any postseason, but he will need to be at or just over .500 overall, and win 7 or 8 in the Big Ten.
I've sentenced boys younger than you to the gas chamber. Didn't want to do it. I felt I owed it to them.

When I said "ISU has to win 2 or 3 games to get into the NIT"
I meant win 2 or 3 in the B12 Tourney.
