Anthony Tucker

has supposedly asked for and been granted a release from his scholarship.  This rumor has been all over hawkeyereport and even the mods there think it's probably true.  I believe it.  This means he will be able to start trying to find a transfer destination immediately.  This doesn't come as much of a surprise to me and it opens up another scholly for next season, that we will hopefully spend on a backup PG.  This could be a mutually beneficial separation.  Best of luck wherever you end up Anthony!

Actually,if this is true...its a problem

because a) you cannot find a player of his (however limited) quality at this late date. Unless there is a JC player sitting out there going unnoticed, which I doubt Lickliter will replace his scholarship with a warm body at best; b) while I don’t love the guy’s presence in the offense he is a needed cog in the wheel of advancement—Lickliter never seems to have enough bodies who understand his system and losing Tucker just hinders the roster growth; c) this adds to Lickliter’s scarlet transfer letter and could lead some to ask, “why does everyone leave this dude?”

Look, I think most people would see this as addition by subtraction and one could easily make the argument that Iowa has played better since he left the line-up, but Lickliter put a lot into this kid and he got nothing in return and scholarships in basketball are extrememly valuable so you don’t want to waste them on last second additions.

I’ll be interested to see how this works out.

There's nothing that says they have to use it for this year's class

They could wait, and use it to sign someone for 2011, which avoids the problem of having to settle for a subpar prospect late in the process. I mean, it sort of hurts depth next year, but we’re adding 5 new guys next year (the freshman class+Archie) while only losing Bawinkle, so we’re at least looking at a net gain there.

This seasons in the tank anyway.

There’s 6 games left, no way to even break .500. It doesn’t sound like Lickliter’s job is on the line, yet. Unless he has a shot a real baller, there is no reason to rush into just getting a warm body on the bench.

Maybe Clayborn Will Do Dual Sports

All he would really have to do is scare the shit out of the opposing team, they wouldn’t suit up and we win by default. Either that or he’d foul out in the first minute…. while the other team figured out how to replace their starting lineup who lay mutilated at center court.

Clayborn and Binns

sure Binns is only 6’2" but he’s got like a 8 foot wingspan.

It's Official

He’s gone.

I, for one, think this is best for the team in the long run.

They have become a better team without him on the court. When he was out there before he got suspended, was he really doing that well shooting wise? IMO, he had regressed as a player from last year.

Best of luck to him wherever he does decide to go.

In a only slightly related note...

…I followed Twin Cities Hawk’s link and there was another link to a story called:
A Down Decade: The state of the Iowa basketball program

Three guesses as to which Hobbit-related sports writer turned in this glowing headline (and subsequent piece of shit article).

Would that hobbit relation be cousin Dildo Baggins?
