PrintHoly crap, guys. This is real.
Turns out Stanzi is NOT using B10 network approved Barbasol shaving products during Bowl preparation. Instead, he's been seen with as much as a week's worth of stubble. My cousin's roommate dated one of the assistant coaches, and Ferentz believes Stanzi may appear in the Insight Bowl with a full on beard. They're still investigating, but it sounds like 11 other players have been "masking" their Barbasol-free faces with Gillette products. Some promenade barbers in town may be involved.
I expected more from Ferentz for $12M/year.

I understand the thing about starting rumors
And trust me, I love the Hawkeyes just as much as everyone else. I don’t WANT any of this stuff to happen, and I hope that’s obvious. I am disappointed in this season, and I didn’t mean to rile everyone up like I did. Just wanted to share my thoughts and share what I’d heard, because there are people on here who have access to more info than me, so I wanted all of your thoughts, and I’d hoped it’d be more sane.
If my post was out of line, I’d think it would have been deleted, and someone could have approached me via e-mail rather than keeping it up and changing the title and a few lines.
I use my real name because I’m a head staffer at Mile High Report. I hope you all can come to know that I’m a really positive guy, and I love Hawkeye football. Just disappointed in this team, is all, and the stuff I heard, I just wanted to know what everyone thought. Obviously the results are in, and I will hesitate to post next time, but you can bet I’ll be back.
I’m not a troll, and if you need to know anything about my reputation as a writer and blogger, you can Google my name. I don’t mean to start negative rumors. I feel like both parties could have handled this differently.

And then you sprayed your diarrhea all over it. I don’t know what you expected to happen, but to use wild and unsubstantiated rumors as a reason to call for a coach’s firing is never, ever going to fly here. Got it?

I never called for any coaches firing, save for Ken O’Keefe and it wasn’t even because of the rumors, it’s because he’s a terrible play-caller.

Rose Bowl bound Wisconsin had a pretty good D this year. Gave up an average of 19.7 per game. Most points given up? To that useless derelict you want to fire. This is the most talented team we’ve had in ages, and we fluffed when it mattered most. Our offense is vanilla. The only convincing win we had all year was against Michigan State, which was the only game all year that we showed what kind of team we could/should have been all year long.
I don’t care how many points Rose Bowl bound Wisconsin gave up, we scored 30, gave up 31, and should have scored more, but Stanzi flopped. Happened against Ohio State, Minnesota, Northwestern, and Arizona too. Unless you missed those games. It also happened against Indiana, another game we should have lost. This is a .500 team at best despite it being the most talented Iowa has had in a long time.
You want to tell me that doesn’t reflect on coaching?
I didn’t make any statements of fact about the players and the rumors I heard, and I missed the rally where we decided no one could share what they heard about that kind of stuff. I have admitted that as my bad multiple times.
You treating me like garbage isn’t going to get you anywhere, and it doesn’t make you right. Iowa sucks this year, and it’s not for lack of talent on the roster, but you can keep making all the excuses you want.

I think Iowa should have been at worst a one loss team with the talent they have. I still think they’re the best team in the Big Ten, but they choked in their big games.

When we start throwing around “necrophiliac pedophile,” I think things are getting out of hand. It was a dumb, irresponsible post and he’s since apologized and removed it.
In hindsight, I think we regret briefly fostering a more crazy rumor-friendly atmosphere during the height of Meltdownmania at the beginning of the week. That was a departure from our established policy and it was frankly a misstep — if people want to talk about that shit, there’s no shortage of Iowa message boards to do it at. Going forward, I think we want to stay out of the rumor-mongering business. I know I would prefer that.
Linked material sourced from a legitimate Iowa media type (one of the beat writers or one of the admins of the message boards, although some of them are more hit-or-miss than others): probably OK.
Un-linked material sourced from “a guy in my class” or “a friend of the coaching staff” or whatever: NOT OK.

I'm not saying you have to read everything that's posted.
But this wasn’t hard to find — at all. It sat on top of the front page for over an entire day. I understand that sometimes we have rapid churn here and posts get buried quickly, but that was not the case in this situation.
If you were inspired to post by recent events, it might have been a good idea to read some recent posts and get a better feel for the mood of the blog and what flies and what doesn’t.

People were saying that we didn’t have enough fire on the sidelines or the field in the last half of the season. And it’s true – this year was way too much like 2005. (Although not having Drew Tate have meltdowns on the sideline/field was nice) We played flat, and teams at the end of the year took advantage of that. (Fucking Minnesota.) I think the difference was honestly the lack of Norm. I think we missed not only his coaching as the def. coordinator, but his motivation on the sidelines. Here’s hoping Norm comes back healthy.

I think Bedinger posted something that insinuated (or outright declared)...
that Stanzi might have been shaving points or throwing games this year. He may have also called for Ferentz to be fired. And it sounded like these claims were based on a rumor. Many people told him he was dumb. He pulled the original post. I think IndyHawk’s post (that we are commenting on) was meant to make fun of the original post.
I did not see Bedinger’s original post either, so I was also confused at first.
