Inconsistency in the Fourth Quarter has Killed Iowa

If you would have came up to me before the season started and told me that Ricky Stanzi would have 21 touchdowns to 4 interceptions, but Iowa would have 4 loses I would have called you crazy.

If you would have told me that at the beginning of the season that Norm Parker would miss over 3/4 of the year due to an amputated foot, I would have called you crazy.

As fans of college football its really easy to play the blame game, but I have it narrowed down to one word: inconsistency.

In all 4 of Iowa's losses, Iowa was either tied or had the lead in the second half. Throughout the year Iowa hasn't been able to make the plays when needed to on both sides of the ball. In the month of November Iowa has only converted 31.58% of their 3rd down conversions. Iowa has also given up an average of 43 yards in penalties this month.

It seems as though this whole year Iowa has never got both sides of the ball working correctly at the same time.

In Arizona the special teams really made it hard on the offense and defense. During the Wisconsin game, Iowa's defense did their part, especially Brett Greenwood as he got an interception off Scott Tolzien mid way through the fourth quarter. Iowa's offense could not move the ball following the pick, and more importantly couldn't take any time off the clock. Iowa's defense then gave up a 15 play, 7 minute drive that gave Wisconsin the lead with only 1minute and 6 seconds left for the Hawks to score. You guys know the rest.

At Northwestern and at home against Ohio state, it was a similar story. Iowa is to inconsistent in the fourth quarter which leads us to lose close football games.

Iowa has only played one complete game so far this season and that of course was against Michigan State. I don't think that we can totally say the defense under-preformed this year as we have been without two linebackers throughout the year. We all know our style of defense and the most key position on the field is linebacker. It also hurt we didn't have the best defensive coordinator in world with us the whole year.

Iowa has lost four games by a total of 15 points. We could have won all these games this year but we are frankly to inconsistent in the fourth quarter.

As hawkeye fans we need to realize that the players are 10 times more disappointed then we are. Lets give them nothing but positive support from here on out.
