Iowa 37, Michigan State 6: The Game in Pictures

So, yeah.  Rushed the field.  Touched Stanzi.  Touched Clayborn.  I'm pretty sure I can now die a happy man.

Pictures, as always, courtesy of Hawk Central.

Without further ado, then:

This was the first thing that leapt into my head when I saw the Dantonio pic.

But sterling work as usual.

My fave - "Well Hi There"

LOL. Awesome. The MSU QB was lucky he wasn’t another step back or the best thing that would’ve happened when he went down was giving Iowa a safety.

Guess what?! I got a fever, and the only prescription...is more cowbell!!

I have a feeling we'll be hearing a lot from Bigach

And how do we find these names? I mean…how perfect is that? Steve Bigach!!!

I like the "a pitch on defense?" pic

Looks like an MSU assistant is covering one eye watching that.

by Duez I say on Nov 1, 2010 4:40 PM CDT reply actions

Good call, I hadn't made the connection.

Maybe it was planned by TMFS? It’s not like the lateral to Hyde was the obvious play to make there. Micah didn’t look initially to be in any better position than Tyler, as his long and crazy journey to the pylon later showed.

Didn't Kirk say something about that in the postgame?

Like how it was payback for the lateral they pulled against us last year?

I think I remember that, because anytime Kirk says “payback” or shows any other sign of vengence it is worth making a mental note…

by bornofclay on Nov 2, 2010 2:24 AM CDT via mobile up reply actions

It seemed like he said that tongue-in-cheek.

Yes

And all of the MSU fans wincing in pain with the one Iowa fan in the middle of them raising her arms in triumph. Great picture.

I think

On the MF’ing Sash pic #3 is saying adjust your sword, and Hyde is saying it’s right here… Okay well good then :P

I left before the end of the game

Did we really storm the field? Was that necessary?

It's not that I'm lazy, Bob, it's that I just don't care

by Colteyes on Nov 1, 2010 6:43 PM CDT reply actions

I get fed up with the "it's not necessary" crowd

Big win. Students want to rush? Go right the fuck ahead. Irrational exuberance. I love it.

I spent half my life's earnings on wine, women & song. The other half I wasted.

by therealCatnuts on Nov 1, 2010 7:15 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions

I'm surprised the students don't rush the field despite the outcome.

Why not save rushing the field for a Big Ten Championship victory or something major rather than when we beat anyone at home. Sure MSU was ranked #5, but don’t we believe we are better than they are (and not just on that day)? If we do, why rush the field?

It's not that I'm lazy, Bob, it's that I just don't care

by Colteyes on Nov 1, 2010 7:36 PM CDT up reply actions

Winning the Big Ten Championship

calls for something far more dramatic than just rushing the field…like say…taking down Minnesota’s goalposts. That seems appropriate.

by HawKCP on Nov 1, 2010 7:58 PM CDT up reply actions

This.

The funny thing was that there was a long pause before the rush. It was like everyone was mulling it over first, and the the student levie broke (it was basically just the student section- – which is fine, because those are the players’ peers- – it wasn’t Michigan ’85 rushing the field).

On the one hand, teams like OSU and USC don’t rush the field after beating a #5 team (they act like they’ve been there before… because they have), but I see no fault in it. The Iowa program is different than most, and I think it’s cool that there can be such a connection between the community and the team.

First time I've ever left a game early actually

Thought it would be wise since it was a blowout to actually get home and take the kid trick or treating.

It's not that I'm lazy, Bob, it's that I just don't care

by Colteyes on Nov 4, 2010 7:19 PM CDT up reply actions

Because it's fun

Who cares if it happens a little too often. It doesn’t hurt anything and for what it costs to get into a game, get the most out of it.

new math

THANK YOU! jeeze, I was getting berated by my section about how maybe there’s a connection between 32 and 23. (and maybe even 3 if Wegher were still around) SO take that Sally Mason!

and that's another Hawkeye first down... EHAWW!!

by HawkPocket on Nov 1, 2010 9:51 PM CDT reply actions

32 ≠ 23 imho.

But ARob deserves all the props he gets this season. (I think ARitt at the WWL is about to start a fan club for him.) He’s given us everything we could possibly ask of him and more, AIRBHG be damned.

While 32 isn't a Doak Walker candidate like 23, he is much better catching the ball

Because as great as Greene was, he was not good in the receiving game. It’s still somewhat of a weakness in his game. No way he runs the route and pulls in that long pass from Stanzi like 32 did on Saturday.

And he is running downhill, hard, like Greene did.

Yes, his TD catch brought Iowa to 23.

But I believe the reference is to Shonn Greene, who wore #23.

To be fair...

You would have to come up with a picture of Sparty slowly being fed into a meat grinder, or tied down on the feed belt heading for the gigantic saw blade, to do justice to this.

Maybe a pic of Cousins tossing his 3rd INT would qualify?

To me "Sparty, NO!" doesn't apply to this game

I always think of it as Sparty blowing a game late or somehow snatching defeat from the jaws of victory; the epic collapse against ND awhile back, 7 got 6, Forcier’s comeback in ’09 (although they did win), if the fake FG against ND had failed this year, etc.

Getting curbstomped for an entire game just doesn’t seem to fit IMO.
