I submit for the record Herky's most awesome Halloween costume.

(Sorry, but your costume is inferior: Herky won Halloween this year. -- Ross)

This is simply beyond awesome.

Guess what?! I got a fever, and the only prescription...is more cowbell!!

When Herk was carried out on the field....

…..the reaction was great. People were laughing, pointing, cheering like crazy. Oddly, Herky as Capt America seemed to loosen up and cheer up a pretty otherwise (initially) sedate crowd. I think it was not only a good omen for the “good guys,” but actually helped get the crowd into the upcoming game. One of the best All-Time Herky moments.

I was surprised to hear

Kirk say after the game that he thought it was louder this week than last week…only because I was there last week and I’ve been to dozens of games and that was right up there with the loudest I’ve been to since they moved the student section. Right up there with Penn State ‘08. Of course the whole statement felt like Ferentz’s typical coachspeak…but still.

Oh…and rec’d…rec’d hard.

I thought it was louder than last week for sure, at least early

The student section was packed too. I got in there right around when Back In Black hit and my friends and I were having trouble finding enough seats together for all of us. Usually it doesn’t fill up that much that quickly. We wound up watching from the concourse level, which was kinda sweet actually since we had room to run and jump around like morons.

My friend commented...

the same thing at the start of the game. The crowd was not as fired up as the Wisky game. The Herky costume was pure genius.

The OOB hit on Stanzi and Tyler Sash fixed fixed the problem of the sedate crowd. It was awesome to see my wife high-fiveing strangers (her first game at Kinnick).

Great costume choice, Herky!

I wish I had thought to dress up as Ricky Stanzi.

OK ...one time Randy Beaman had to take baths with his brother ... so one time his little brother took a potty in the bathtub ... and now Randy Beaman gets to take showers by himself. 'K. Bye

Ricky Stanzi's a Pirate?

Or is that eyepatch a premonition that he’ll be drafted by either the Bucs or the Raiders?

He might be getting ready to be the next Solid Snake

Disagree, though I can understand why it polarizes people.

If you want a game where two sides line up and shoot the shit out of each other, Call of Duty-style, this isn’t the game for that. It plays more like an interactive movie (aren’t there something like 8 hours of cinematic sequences?). And if you played the previous MGS games, at least in my opinion, this game did an amazing job of bringing all the story lines together.

Those guys were absolutely brilliant.

I was hoping someone got a pick of this. My friend did and I was bout to nab his phone and post it. Thanks for beating me to it.

Who is Herky?

I mean, who is in the suit and makes the executive mascot decisions these days? When I was there in the mid 90s I think it was always a Delta Tau Delta kid, but they got shut down for some sort of shenanigans if I remember right.

Anyway, this is full of win.

It is open to anyone who wants to try out

They hold annual try-outs to be on the squad… there are 6 positions but they only have 5 people on the squad this year. Executive decisions are made by the spirit squad (aka cheerleading) coach, and an assistant who was on the squad until he graduated last year.

Some young kid sitting behind me in the north endzone

asked after I had yelled “Holy shit! Herky is awesome!”, “Who is he supposed to be?”…. Are we really raising a generation of kids who don’t know who Captain America is or was this kid just a straight up moron?

Damn kids.

Maybe he’ll know after the CAPTAIN AMERICA movie next year. (Which, sadly, doles not star Ricky Stanzi in the titular role, since he was too busy quarterbacking Iowa.)

It'd be cool

But Marvel/Disney’s lawyers might have something to say about it.

Herky is Captain America

Your argument is invalid.

America, you're looking good: handsome, free and tall.
