Tim Dwight at the Millrose Games (Super 60)
I don't see much Track and Field blog traffic here at BHGPs, but thought many of you would nonetheless be interested in Tim Dwight's appearance at the 103rd Millrose Games today. He ran in a special 60m dash against other former NFL players. The race was won by Anthony Dorsett, Jr. in 7.01. Most impressive was 49 year old Willie Gault finishing 3rd in 7.07. He was closing in fast and may have won had the race been 100 yards. Dwight, although looking fit, finished a distant 4th in 7.25. As a comparison, the winner of the Elite event finished in 6.59.

This is obviously false because Tim Dwight would never lose a race
As someone who is now 1/6th lawyer, I would advise this site’s editors to take down this vile piece of libelous filth before Timmy D’s people find out and sue this site for every penny that it’s worth.
5 Minutes 50 Seconds
I was the Minnesota game in 97 when he broke the record for number of punts returned for TD in Big Ten history. As I recall, he broke two other records on that same return. Unfortunately, I was down in the student section so I couldn’t really see it worth a crap.
In 100 years, we'll all be dead.
In other former NFL player news
I just watched Herschel Walker beat the living fuck out of somebody in his MMA debut. Seriously.

Doesn't bother me
I know what Tim did in uniform as does Michigan, Ohio State, Indiana, Michigan State, Penn State, etc. Ohio State had some incredibly fast DBs and he blew past them like the road runner past Wiley Coyote. Fastest I’ve ever seen a human run in person.
If I remember right, Gault was a world-class sprinter who they tossed on the football team to go deep and hope the QB threw that far. We played against him in the ‘82 Peach Bowl. I’m sure he caught a few passes but I don’t remember him burning us. On the flip side, we burned Tennesee with Ronnie Harmon playing flanker, and one of my sentimental favorites, Dave Moritz, at WR.
Herschel Walker bothers me, though. I can appreciate still competing, as I’m only a year or two younger than he. But MMA is no 60-yard dash. Unless he selects all losers to fight, we are eventually going to see Walker beat up and in submission. For a guy I remember as being relatively classy, (maybe I forgot something) I don’t need to see that. And when it happens, the WWL will be more than happy to show it to me.
Gault's Speed
You’re right about Gault being a world class sprinter. He was also a world class hurdler.
I remember the hype before the ‘82 Peach Bowl being about the speed of Tennessee’s receivers. I recall there being someone else besides Gault who was supposed to be lightening quick, but I can’t remember who. Anyway, it turned out to be a non-issue for the Hawks even though Gault did catch one touchdown pass in the 2nd Half.

Tim Dwight
One of the fastest white guys from Iowa I had the pleasure to watch from his freshman year on. Watched him take ICH from DFL in the 4×200 to first and win in a breeze on his anchor leg. Gault had world class speed. If I remember correctly he was on the Olympic 4×100 team. The only person that played football and had speed that impressed me was Herschel Walker. Watched him at the Drake relay make up 3 staggers on the 4×100. He ran second leg and Mel Lattney was the anchor. Georgia flirted with the World Record with that team. I could not imagine something that big moving that fast coming toward me if I was a DB. I said at the time if I was a DB I would turn and block for him to get out of the way.
Gault in the Olympics
I got curious and looked up Gault’s history. He qualified for the 1980 Olympics that the US boycotted. His greatest achievements in Track came in the 1983 World Championships in Helsinki. He helped set a 4×100 WR along with Carl Lewis, Calvin Smith and Emmit King. The thing I had completely forgotten about was him being a hurdler (he took 3rd at the same meet).
I always liked seeing Dwight run, and have never seen his equal for punt returns. It was good to see him compete at Millrose, but I’m still impressed with Gault still being so fast at age 49.

That 4x200 race
Was the lasting memory for me of Tim D. He got the baton about 10 yards behind the leader…passed him with 50 yards to go and won easily. It was unreal.
