Replacing Ball State
Here's an updated list, per the American Football Coaches Association, of FBS and FCS schools with an open date and in need of an opponent in 2010. Whom would y'all like to see slotted into Ball State's place for Iowa? And what's the realistic option?
(note: Minnesota and Pittsburgh have that date open as well, but since we already play them in 2010...)
FBS opponents:
Colorado State University
2010: 1 home/1 away, 9/11, 9/25, 10/2
University of North Texas
Open Dates
2010: (2 home - 1 away) 9/11, 9/18, 9/25
Marshall University
Open Dates
2010: 9/11, 9/18, 9/25 two home or one home/one away
FCS opponents:
University of California, Davis
Open Dates
2010: Sept 25, Oct 16
University of South Dakota
Open Dates
2010: Sept. 18, Sept. 25, Nov. 20
University of North Dakota
Open Dates
2010 - Sept. 25, Oct. 16, Nov. 13, Nov. 20 - Need 2 home and 1 away - Will consider both home and home as well as cash guarantees.
Colorado State and North Texas would be a great replacement in my opinion. Plus the Hayden Fry/North Texas connection is juicy.
But realistically, this looks like a UND game.

Already playing Eastern Illinois in 2010.
I really hope we don’t add a second FCS school.
Any of the first three would fill Ball State’s spot fine. If Ball State does pull out, I’m sure that’s the kind of school we’d look at replacing them with and another FCS school would be a last resort.
Given these option...we should just play
with ourselves. More enjoyable.
Zed: You could be my right-hand man.
Oh: I've seen what you do with your right hand. No, thank you.
We play Pitt in 2011
We play @ Arizona in 2010.

The quintessential Big Ten smoking room.
We should kidnap Letterman until they keep their agreement.
Isn’t there a limit on the number of red bird mascot teams we play in a year? Still haven’t figured out exactly how a cyclown is a red bird.
Everybody wants a little milk of Michael
CSU would be a neat opponent
even if Iowa has to promise a return trip. Ft. Collin is a neat town, and is home of the New Belgium brewery, so there’s that. Hell, Iowa could probably write into the contract that the return game is at Mile High.
HELL YES

I think North Texas...
is on the schedy already in one of the upcoming years….
"I'm not doing any good back here."
I think that's in 2014 and 2015...
Or somewhere 5 years or more out.
It's not that I'm lazy, Bob, it's just that I don't care
I agree that...
it would be best to have a I-A opponent. I really don’t ever want to see Iowa have more than one FCS team on the schedule, unless they would be helping out UNI or something.
I could tolerate a home and home with either Marshall or CSU. If we schedule North Texas, it would be better to get a 2 for one or just a game at Kinnick. However, NT is hoping to build a new stadium by 2011. So, if we had to give them a home game, I would like it to be after they build the new place.
I guess we know that there is no way Oklahoma gets onto the schedule. Thanks Bobby.
I've sentenced boys younger than you to the gas chamber. Didn't want to do it. I felt I owed it to them.

Can't we play on a later date?
We definitely need to schedule a Div I-A opponent especially with a I-AA game already on the schedule.
With the B11 finally joining the late 20th Century and allowing teams to play after Turkey Day IOWA should look to schedule a game with a middle of the road I-A team later in the year if possible. Would have to check availabilities but wouldn’t it be nice to play a game the first week of December? Not such a long layoff before a bowl and also keeps us in the public consciousness.
Even over adding a 12th scheduling games later in the year would help on many levels.
