Iowa's Record over the last 30 years
I never would have guessed that Iowa has the third best record over the past 30 years (notably excluding PSU).

Penn State has been in the league 16 years
And has averaged precisely a 5-3 record in BXI play, which puts them at 80-48 (.625), or third in the conference. They’ve also got 3 conference titles in those 16 years, which is about Iowa’s pace (5 of 30).
All in all, they’re a lot closer to Iowa than they are to Michigan. Nice find, taotkoks.

I call shenanigans!
Don’t you know, per our betters at jNW, that we only consider Big Ten play/records beginning in 1995?!? Clearly, nothing existed before this time as the football world was apparently an empty void given shape only when Gary Barnett led jNW to their rightful place at the top.
On a serious note, interesting article, great find.

Little faith – do you think the trollers will really deny their .299 conference winning percentage and 0.0000000% lifetime bowl winning percentage? Consistent message back – 30 years, .299, jNW.

Even since they “became a real program”, they still have a sub-.500 in-conference winning percentage (.464) [and yes, I calculated this because I will do anything to avoid real work] while Iowa’s is .527 (not great, but much closer to its norm.
And yes, I would fully expect them to deny their .299 winning %, as most of it (16 of 30 seasons) takes place before they became a real team, and therefore is apparently meaningless.

Of course anything like this can depend a little on when you start.
For example, if you go back 20 years instead of 30, Wisconsin does much better because they still sucked in the 80s but got decent when Barry A. came on board (I don’t know that they beat out Iowa in a 20-year benchmark but it’s at least close).
But yeah, one of the great things about Iowa is a remarkable run of consistency over a very sustained period. When and if KF does move on it will make Iowa a very desirable job. You can win at Iowa, and win consistently.

I didn't read the article so I don't know if this was mentioned
but in the last 30 years, we have had 2 coaches. Penn St. has had one. Are any of the other schools even under five? That helps consistency, one would think.

Since 1993
http://www.cleveland.com/datacentral/index.ssf/2008/10/alltime_big_ten_standings_and.html
1) Ohio State 99-28-1 0.777
2) Michigan 93-35 0.727
3) Penn State 80-48 0.625
4) Wisconsin 74-51-3 0.590
5) Iowa 65-62-1 0.512
8) Northwestern 54-74 0.422
Penn State is closer to Michigan than Iowa. In fact Iowa is closer to Northwestern than they are to Penn State.

Why did you leave out 6 and 7?

Also since 1993
Penn State has 12 bowl appearances with 9 wins.
Iowa has 11 bowl appearances with 6 wins
jNWU has 6 bowl appearances with 0 wins
Indiana has 2 bowl appearances with 0 wins.
jNWU is closer to Indiana than Iowa.

I take it you picked 1993
because that is the year Penn State joined the league.

I calculated it once
If I recall correctly, with all-time conference records, Iowa is still only behind OSU and Michigan.
Or they could also be behind Minnesota, who were relevant in the years before the Korean War.
Or maybe it was number of Big Ten championships? I don’t recall.
But… yeah. Iowa’s arguably the third best team in the conference historically by some measure or another.
