Jets coach Rex Ryan Talking about Shonn Greene.

[Bounced to the front page like it's Frank Duong -- ed.]

What we knew about Greene all along-

"I love the way guys bounce off of him," the Jets head coach said at his just concluded news conference between today's early and late rookie minicamp practices. "He goes rolling in there and guys are going flying. It doesn't matter who it is. An offensive teammate went flying today. He hits that hole, and this is a big man coming through there. He runs low. He's just a big old rascal. But they do, they bounce off him."

What we also knew about him-

"Unfortunately," Rex added, "some of the passes bounce off him."

Ryan provided an exchange between QB Mark Sanchez and Greene after one dropped pass. Sanchez:

"Sorry, I should've put that on the other shoulder."

Greene: "I just don't catch very well."

Sounds like Greene is doing pretty much exactly what we all thought he would...

I'll admit, I never bought into the "bad hands" stuff

I knew he was untested, but never actually thought he would struggle catching the ball. I guess he’s just going to have to spend extensive offseason time working on his pass catching. Greene isn’t really the type of runner that is expected to catch many passes, but knowing that a QB can throw to Greene when necessary sure would make him absolutely invaluable.

He didn't get many opportunities at Iowa

But he seemed to drop most of the passes they did throw to him, and generally looked pretty lost in the passing game. He is a pretty good pass blocker though, so he’s not totally useless in passing situations. Plus, the Jets already Leon Washington to throw to out of the backfield, so I’m not sure it’ll be a huge issue for Shonn anyway. It was a really nice situation for him to fall into.

Got to love the honesty from Shonn

Told Sanchez straight up he has a fault. Makes me think he is open to working on it.

“An offensive teammate went flying today.” – Did the Jets pick up DJK too?

they did not

but Brodell is back on the street. The Packers failed him on his physical from the 2007 torn hamstring.

Swine Flu is serious business, the CDC has released an on-line test, Do You Have Swine Flu?

Sorry if it wasn't evident

but it was a joke about DJK. I was referencing the Minnesota game where Shonn had to run over DJK because DJK got in the way.

Greene will work on his receiving, and improve. Dan Pastorini, when the titans were the oilers, once had this to say about earl campbell’s receiving: “He couldn’t catch a cold”. Campbell did ok for himself running as well. In the nfl, offenses like to get the ball to running backs in space, and a well executed screen pass can be a big play also. But ryan has planned on pounding the ball, and playing defense, and greene will excel. If he starts and plays the whole season, i believe he has a chance to be rookie of the year imo.

2 things and I’m not belittling: 1) Shonn is an awesome Shonn but Earl Campbell he is not; 2) for his sake let’s hope he is also not Mr. Campbell later in life with the concussed syndrome and inability to walk from nfl pounding.

You're back!

HawkFanInBoston, good to see you’re back. It’s about time.

Shonn looks sexy in a helmet and shorts.
