2009 Hawkeyes' Top Ten Players
The article has already been linked in a fan shot by Hawkruqui, but I noticed a blurb on the right hand side, just above the 2009 schedule that I simply could not ignore.
As ranked by CFN, Iowa's "Ten Best Players" are as follows:
- Bryan Bulaga
- Pat Angerer
- Kyle Calloway
- Jeremiha Hunter
- Amari Spievey
- Derrell Johnson-Koulianos
- Tyler Sash
- Ryan Donahue
- Brett Greenwood
- Tony Moeaki
Now, I may be crazy; but to say that Brett "Epic" Greenwood is the ninth best player on the 2009 team seems a bit outrageous. Especially considering that neither of the DEs are listed. I know that CFN is not the most respected college football blog on the interwebz, but how in the world do Adrian Clayborn (he of face impregnating fame) or Christian Ballard get ranked behind this?

Greenwood being rated is obviously retarded
But having Spievey all the way down at 5 is almost as bad. I think he’s easily the second best player on the team after Bulaga (although Angerer obviously isn’t a bad pick). Plus, no Edds? I know he doesn’t have great stats, but his coverage is a big part of what makes the defense work.
Edds not making the list is definitely ridiculous.
Especially considering that both Hunter and Angerer both made the list.

No kidding
Hunter’s not even a lock to start in front of Tarpinian, and he’s #4 on the list? That’s absurd.
I got more rhymes than Wade Lookingbill's got dunks
College Football News is retarded.
How many times must we tell you this? You’ll never, ever learn anything about the Hawkeyes from there that you didn’t already know. They’re not experts on anything. They suck. End of story.

Although I agree that they are terrible
At this point, I’m willing to read damn near anything about the upcoming football season. The preview made for a decent read. It wasn’t until I saw the above list that I started to actually laugh out loud.

I thought the preview was better than normal for them...
but that top 10 list was re-goddamn-tarded. Leaving off Clayborn, Ballard, AND Edds is just absurd.
Swinging Dick Stanzi
is worthy of a place in the top 10, no? The guy did something not one single projected starting QB in the Big 10 has EVER done…led a fourth quarter comeback win against a top 5 team.
Now, he may have cost us the Northwestern game and maybe even the Illiinois game, but he clearly progressed as the season went along. As he goes, so goes Iowa in 2009 and if we are picked in the top 20—and I have seen plenty of lists projecting us in the top 20—then he must be very good.
