Kelly Transfer Rumors

I know that Jake went on the record with DM Register earlier this month to shoot down rumors that he was heading back home....but according to Scott Dochterman, those rumors have fired up again.  Theres also a 30+ post thread about it on HR, and it was mentioned in a thread on Cyclone Fanatic.

The old saying is that where there's smoke there's fire...anybody know anything?  OPS?

Yeah... it's uh, not looking too good at the moment.

Also rumors swirling about two other possible transfers.

Just have to wait and see.

hogwash

I don’t see any of this happening. First, Kelly was made by Lickliter. He can only go down. Davis was a JC transfer and will only ruin ANY chance he had for playing time by leaving. Everyone had a system and it takes time to learn ANY system. He is no rocket scientist either. Peterson was saved by Lickliter or else he would be a much lower Div. I program. He’ll see even more progress if he stays. I can see only the the two guys from Minn. leaving and I event doubt Tucker leaving. So that leaves the other Minn. kid (can’t recall his name for some reason).

Sir Brick-a-lot, aka Andrew Brommer

is the Minnesotan you can’t remember.

There does seem to be a lot of smoke around Kelly leaving and that would obviously be an enormous blow to the hoops team if true. For what it’s worth, I think he if he left it would be more for personal reasons than basketball reasons – tough to imagine him finding a better b-ball position than he has at Iowa, where he’ll be the offensive focal point for a B10 team for the next two years. But I can certainly understand why he’d want to move closer to home to be near family after the death of his mother last year.

Not sure what to make of the other rumors, as they don’t seem to make a lot of sense at all.

I heard Angle's gone...

But they’re ust rumors guys. I’ve heard Palmer and Peterson rumors, and the Jake ones sound as good as gold. He’s gone. This is a bad day for Iowa basketball, kind of a walls closing in moment. I don’t know if Lickliter can really recover in time for the fanbase to not feed him to the wolves…baaad baddd baddd

I hate to admit it...

but if we can’t retain these guys that are worth a damn then B-ball may be a lost cause until or unless Iowa H.S.’s graduate 5 guys a year (at varying heights and positions) like Gatens.

I think Kelly is getting bad advice. He can’t transfer within the Big 10 and if he goes to Bradley, Ind. State, or Butler he will become a nobody over night. I agree with you though, this will be a major blow the credibility of Lickliter. The recurring claim of “not knowing my role” is not a good one (see: Palmer).

This can only mean one thing...

Seth Curry is headed to Iowa City! Seth and Gatens is more than enough to make a run through the tourney a couple years from now. Keep it on the down low…

Go Hawks!

Apparently facts are weak things when they face personal philosophies.

Does anybody know

if we are still recruiting MJ’s son?

by south_texas_hawk on Mar 25, 2009 7:48 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Wouldn't that be great

Sadly I don’t think that you are correct CUNKNNK. I have read in several places that the JK rumor is official as of now. Channel 13 in Des Moines contacted him and he told them he couldn’t talk until later in the week.

I scored more in college than JR Angle

Thank God for football and wrestling

We are becoming a two sport school…well, three if you include women’s field hockey (which I do, now)

The thing that stings the most

is that we seemed to be getting better. And now we’re taking steps backwards.

By god, I wasn't about to let one of the regulars here post this

Oh, bullshit

I really wish we had won the game, cause I would post this constantly

If it makes you feel any better

We do anyway. Well, not that one, but I’m sure it’ll make its way into the rotation now. Because it’s glorious.

We deserve whatever we are calling PSU according to OPS’ annoyance rules digs about this. The basketball program is fucked.

It's true, the basketball program is fucked

but I’d rather think about happy things right now, like wins over Penn State and beer.

Finally something to bring us together

Beer and Rum, mmmmm.

This is our most desperate hour. Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi; you're my only hope.

Rich Brooks

Look it up…his first few years as Kentucky football coach were a disaster. No one could understand why Kentucky didn’t fire him. Eventually though he started winning. Now he is taking them to places they have not ever been.

One can only hope this is the story of Todd Lickliter. I don’t see this team winning more then .500 for the next two years. They were not a lock to a great deal better WITH Kelly and Davis, and Peterson. Now recruits are taking a second look. Urgh.

That would be four years of substandard basketball, right when we are trying to upgrade our facilities. Fans could drop of the face of the world. No revenue.

Yuck.
