Around SBN: Clippers Need To Realize That Spurs Are The Anti-Grizzlies

Clinton Solomon still living the dream...kinda

It's not the NFL, but Solomon has found a way to keep playing, and keep his ultimate goal alive.  He has joined the Wichita Wild in the newly formed Indoor Football League, and, appears to have developed quite well.  Full story here.

Star-divide

I got to know Clinton fairly well during the summer between his JR & SR season while we were working at HyVee*, and I was positive he was on his way to a great senior season and a career in the NFL.  Ultimately it didn't really worked out for him, but it's great to see him land on his feet.

Anyone know what happened to the other seniors from that team? The last I heard about Jovon and Paschal was that they were both heading to Philadelphia to play for the Steelers, and Eagles, respectively.  Haven't heard anything about Hinkel since his signing with the Colts.

*Now that I think about it.  Solomon may have loved the American flag tie almost as much as Mr. Leman.  I do believe it was the only tie that Clinton owned, or at least the only tie he ever wore to work.

Good luck, Clinton.

He took a lot of shit as a SR for dropped passes, and while some of it was fair, he was still a very productive WR for us as a JR and SR – we haven’t had a WR since then who was remotely as productive or as much of a deep threat. Hopefully DJK keeps improving.

As for the rest of those guys… Jovon was on the Steelers’ practice squad for a while, but I don’t know if he still is. Paschal was with the Eagles, got cut before the 08 season and didn’t latch on anywhere, but wiki says he signed with the Falcons in January of this year – hopefully he sticks around. And last I knew Hinkel was working on Marv Cook’s staff at Iowa City Regina.

That makes me kinda sad

I loved Solomon. I guess it’s cool that he’s still playing football but he deserves better than this possibly made up league. If I ever win the lottery I’m hiring he and Tim Dwight to catch passes from me in the backyard (Dwight doesn’t actually need the money, I just really want to hang out with Timmy D).

Ironically

When Paschal was trying out in Philly, it was for backup free safety behind Sean Considine. Philly will love you and miss you, Sean. Jaguars are lucky to have you.

Side note: One time at a Phillies game I went to the bathroom. When I came back my friend told me that Considine walked right by us. I still fantasize to this day what I would have said to him. “Want to come over and watch some football someday, Sean? I have an HDTV and pictures of you on the ceiling…”

I fucking loved Solomon. My favorite game of his was Purdue 2005. He was so exciting to watch, similar to Ramon Ochoa in that he was off of everyone’s radar but was as valuable as anyone on the team his senior year. Some guy named TDHawkIz made highlights that year. That video, set to Alter Bridge – One Day Remains, is a great way to pass the offseason.

My favorite memory of Solomon...

He came in about halfway through the second quarter of the throw back game vs. Kent State in 2005. My dad turned to me and said “Solomon is in, they are about to go deep.” Sure enough Tate dropped back and hit him for a 40 some year TD pass. Can’t forget him scorching the ENTIRE LSU defense on Iowa’s first possession in the Capital One Bowl. SEC speed my ass….

Thanks for posting this

Solomon is definitely one of my favorite Hawkeyes from recent years, and it’s great to see that he’s still playing. I’d love to see him work his way into the NFL.
