Gonzalez Not All That Impressed With Captain Kirk
[Bumped, for obvious reasons. And yes, 3&OTKOKS, any commentary would be superfluous.--OPS]
"I want to see who they name as head coach," Gonzalez said. "Yeah, I hear they’re talking to Todd Haley, but then there’s this coach [Ferentz] from Iowa State, some [expletive] like that and I don’t want to deal with that. It seems like we’re rebuilding anyway, and I don’t want to do that. I don’t know that I want to do that any more than I already have been."

Really not that much more to say.

I think he's just looking for excuses
Seems to me that he wants out of KC pretty badly, and he thinks that if he makes it look like he refuses to play for a college coach whom he knows nothing about he won’t look like another spoiled athlete. And hasn’t Ferentz been officially ruled out as a candidate at KC?
I understand Gonzalez’s desire to win, but I’ve never understood why players complain about their current team. Wouldn’t it make more sense to try to get the GM to bring in better talent so that you won’t have to deal with an entirely different situation?

Nobody Seems to Know Anyone From Iowa...
In the national media Shonn Greene is always “That Greene kid from Iowa” and this isn’t the first time I have heard Iowa referred to as ISU.

hah
I am not a usual BHGP reader, but saw this on profootballtalk and my first reaction was to come here to see how it was received. I thought TG was intelligent – I guess everything is relative.

"I am not a usual BHGP reader"
There’s your problem right there…….
No self-respecting man from Iowa goes anywhere without beer

The article was shady
It was obviously slanted to make people think Tony Gonzalez was demanding a trade.
Which he wasn’t.

TG
demanded a trade before the deadline, and the old GM King Carl didn’t get it done…carl demanded a king’s ranome for an aging HOFer. like a 2nd and 3rd round pick or a 2nd & two 4th round picks. give me a break.
this place smells like feet. i’ll bring a can of lysol next week.

I'm a big Chiefs fan and have always liked TG....
…but, as I posted on the SBN blog Arrowhead Pride, Tony probably should have said less on this occasion. Spouting off about prospective coaches you know nothing about (and not even getting their school right) isn’t terribly bright or productive.
But, having said that, primetime is also correct that the article took selective quotes to make Tony look as disgruntled as possible. Tony did the rest with his profane and questionable word choices.
His frustration is understandable as he nears the final years of his career, as he’s played for a terrible team that won 6 games in the last two years, but I still wish he’d keep his frustration a tad more in-house and not spout off about things he doesn’t know about.
Hell, Tony G. would probably love playing for Ferentz if he knew how much KF likes to utilize a good receiving tight end in his offensive game plan. One call to Dallas Clark would have been all he needed.

Gonzalez is a pretty boy bitch. Yes, he’s good, yes he’s a hall of famer, but what the fuck has that got the Chiefs?! No playoff wins in his entire career! It was a chickenshit comment and was even more chickenshit to backpedal after making it.
I’ve always liked Tony G, but that was way out of line and disrespectful as hell to a class act who is highly thought of in football circles – both at the college and NFL level. And you know what Tony, if you don’t want to play in KC and don’t like the direction of the team, don’t sign a contract extension you stupid fuck. By the way, the call not to trade Tony was not Carl’s – it was made my Clark Hunt. I hate Carl as much as the next guy, but it’s important to have your facts straight.

You're going to blame the fucking TE because the team has sucked?
How about the defense that’s been an abomination basically the entire time he’s been there?

They also lost Casey Wiegman
That was the beginning of the end

He Was Fantastic This Year For Denver
And actually finally made the Pro Bowl.

Wiegman was fantastic for a few years there in KC.
During the early part of this decade, between 02-05, with Roaf, Waters and Shields, KC had one of the best offensive lines I’ve ever watched. They way they would pull to the outside in tandem and block some of Priest Holmes’ runs was poetry in motion if you’re a fan of OL play.
If only those teams had even a servicable defense…
