SECOND HALF LIVEBLOG: EMO IOWA
Untitled by Simple Plan with lyrics (via jalenfaith)
Things have gone... sour. Sour to quite sour. Here, we wail and lament. And also Iowa's still going to win because this is what the script always says.
Please come back, Ricky Stanzi. Please.

Fuck it
None of this is real. The #4 ranking, the accolades, or the undefeated record. We’re just not very good. We feasted on a weak Big 10, crappy inexperienced QB’s, and gift turnovers. I am done freaking out about this. I’ve tossed my last laptop across the room. I’ve cried out like a popped my groin for the last time. We suck and we’re finally back to the median, where we belong. We’re Iowa, after all. It was a good ride, but it’s over.
Perhaps my best years are gone. When there was a chance of happiness. But I wouldn't want them back. Not with the fire in me now. No, I wouldn't want them back.

Time to unveil that Wilcat formation with McNutt in the backfield.
by YouCanPutYourEddsInIt on Nov 7, 2009 12:41 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
TO make this even more heroic...
we need to lose DJK and McNutt on a collision over the middle, that results in an INTERCEPTION for a TD and then…we go ape shit and win by 10.

I'm afraid that the math is not good for us
even if Ohio State loses today. The tiebreaker rule is that in a three way tie (I am assuming we lose to Ohio State and beat Minny) the team with the highest BCS ranking goes…and I think overall record. So PSU goes.
Bottom line, we must beat Ohio State to see a conference championship and the Rose Bowl. No way around it.

Lord knows.
We need a win to have a shot at that. Wisco could easily finish 10-2. If OSU finishes 9-3 and we finish 9-3, they’ll definitely go over us.

If this had been a game between two 5-4 teams,
would anybody anywhere have watched the second half? I mean, nothing really happened. It was two pedestrian teams out there.

The worst part...
I’m not mad/upset Iowa lost. I’m mad/upset that we lost without our best.

Yea but we've been winning without our best all season. Losing Stanzi was just the last straw.

I'm upset that we lost to one-legged and zero-armed QB's
They were even worse off than us but at least they can get three yards running the ball once in a while.

Like I said before, I don't blame this loss on our defense.
But the way they were giving up 4-5 yards a pop up the middle for a while was really frustrating.

I'm putting this on Vandenberg all the way. If you are a D-1 QB there is no way you should be that bad.
The receivers were open all day and the D played well. Vandenberg just went out and sucked it up all over the field.

You don't think he missed every receiver?
by toled0lions on Nov 7, 2009 2:33 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
You didn't see him running around looking completely lost the whole time he was in
You didn’t see the 9/27 passing performance? That’s 30% completions. Were you watching the same game?

You're not doing yourself any favors by talking.

You have to be excited for next year though.
Not to just write off the rest of this one, but if no one leaves early (although I think Spievey prob will)… I mean, look at what this team’s accomplished this year when, quite frankly, they shouldn’t have. With that kind of experience coming back – both in terms of playing time and situational experience – wow.

No question.
Hopefully the Injury Fairy doesn’t visit as much next year.

Won't the O linebe devastatingly different next year?
That’s where we’ll get hurt.
by stewartom on Nov 7, 2009 2:30 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
That might not be such a bad thing
It’s not like this year’s group are world-beaters.

This OSU-PSU game is going to be brutal to watch
6-3 final?
Nothing good ever had "State" in its name.

Just think about the team with Hampton and Robinson at RB. All the DB's healthy. The O-line healthy
I can’t wait til next year. Let’s get this season over with already.

I like Tarpinian,
But I assume we’ll miss Edds and Angerer in coverage.

Jesus, get a grip.
Why not give Vandy a chance when he has actual prep time with the 1’s? I’m not expecting anything out of the OSU game, but the Minnesota game is not an impossibility.
That would be a 10-win season with a chance at 11 in a bowl. That’s hardly a season worth dismissing out of hand.

I'm not dismissing it I just think next years team is gonna be even better.
I want to see what that looks like. I just hope we play an SEC team in the bowl game so the SEC fans I know will shut up about how they would beat Iowa by 70.
