Breaking news: Iowa wrestlers continue to dominate lesser opposition
In the not at all shocking news department, Iowa laid the smackdown on Bucknell, 29-7, and Rutgers, 33-9, yesterday in a pair of road dual meets. The takeaway: Matt McDonough and Dan Dennis apparently looked great, Jay Borschel looks like he's back in his 07-08 form, and 157 and 165 continue to look like areas of some concern. Most shocking result: Brent Metcalf dec. Kevin LeValley (Bucknell), 3-2. Um... whaaaa? Metcalf the Destroyer responded by tech falling his second opponent, Kellen Bradley of Rutgers.

Actually...
scratch that concern about 165. I didn’t notice at first that Morningstar didn’t compete in these duals (apparently he was resting a minor injury from last week’s duals and getting ready for Iowa State next week). When he’s available, we have no real concerns at that weight.

Metcalf's fine, too
LeValley’s a bad matchup for Metcalf — tall and lanky, and very good at defensive/counter wrestling. If the ref from the Rugers match had been officiating the Bucknell duel, LeValley would have been tagged with a few well-deserved stall warnings and the outcome likely would have been very different.

Sluggish?
I thought the whole team looked a little sluggish during the first dual (Bucknell), but then they had to fly in the night before with a couple of plane changes and a long bus ride followed by a practice at a local high school. I guess I would have been a little sluggish, too. The energy was back in the second dual.
Life is hard. It's really hard if you're stupid.
