College Football is a funny thing.
I will alway cheer for my boys in black and gold. That is one of science's constants. What is not constant is who else I will cheer for. For example, last night the wife is hinting that we should retire early so as to participate in some adult activity. I found myself telling the Mrs. to hold off a few minutes because I just had to see the end of the West Virgina-Pitt game. Normally I could give two shits who wins that game. In fact a few years back I would have boycotted watching it due to my hatred of Rich Fraudriguez. But last night I was captivated by the outcome due to Pittsburgh's BCS standings and the fact that it would help the Hawks get to the Fiesta or Orange.
Then today I plan on sitting in my tree stand this afternoon and trying to shoot the 8 point buck that has been nosing around my hunting area with my bow. But if the OU-OSU game is tight I might have to go later or not at all just to see if the Sooners can help the Hawks by eliminating the Cowpokes.
I cussed out loud last night when Boise State started taking it to Nevada. The wife looked at me funny saying, "Who cares about this game." That is the odd thing about it. Nobody ouside of Idaho or Nevada should care about it. Instead I watched until I figured out that Nevada didn't have the horses to compete.
I find it funny that I will deviate from activities that I find so much fun just to watch a football game that normally I could care less about. That is why the NFL will never be what college football is. I periodically watch an NFL game that really means nothing to me other than I may have a fantasy player playing at that time. But there is no passion or emotion in that. As I sit here watching OU up 10 in the second quarter I wonder how many other Hawks are out there doing the same thing. Praying for our boy Bobby Stoops to come through for the Hawks years after his eligability has run out.

There is something… just…. terribly wrong to me about those words… but that’s exactly why you’re right.

Hawks basketball game on BTN
Yet I’m sitting in front of the TV cheering for the Sooners. There must be quite a few other fellow Hawkeyes doing the same as there are no more than 400 people inside Carver.
8400 would be BS...
but I was shocked at how many people actually were there from what I saw on TV. I’d be willing to bet they had about 3000 to 5000 people there.
Then again, maybe they figured that they would see one of the few wins this year.

So maybe I exaggerated a bit
But there is no way that was 8433 people. Maaaaybe 8433 tickets sold and about 4000 decided to stay home and watch the OU domination.

I concur with that, Thrasher...
I just wasn’t sure if maybe you had better info than I had, and maybe there were less people there than I thought.
My estimate was based only on B10 Network camera shots of the crowd.
Go Hawks!

Hawkeye basketball on BTN
I didn’t even know. Holy shit how far the BB team has fallen. I feel really guilty right now.

I knew there was a game today, But I definitely didn't realize that it was on
Sooners have pretty much wrapped this one up, so I’m flipping over.
Nevermind, it's not on the DirecTV my parents have
Oh well. Go Hawks, I guess.
BEDLAM !!!!!!!!!!

Now we just need Cincy to beat Pitt next week
I’m confident of this happening, but things could get dicey if Pitt were to pull off the upset. Doubtful that the BCS bowls would take two Big East teams, especially two that don’t travel well, but it would be far better for Iowa to have this be rendered moot.
Also, will be pulling hard for Texas next week and Georgia Tech over Clemson.
I ate the blue ones ... they taste like burning.
Cincy – Pitt looks like a pretty significant coaching mismatch. The stache was outcoached last night by a dude whose fanbase has given up on him. I think the only way NU can stay with UT is if McCoy has a 5 interception game; NU can’t score and the UT defenders are f-a-s-t. Tech Clemson might be another matter, although I have no idea if Tech fans travel. Florida travel, yes. AZ travel, don’t know.
Yeah.
I just don’t see how a BCS game wants anything to do with an 11-1 at-large Cincy team. They brought a pathetic crowd and awful ratings to the Orange Bowl after an all-timer of a season. Not sure why things would be better this year. And comparing them to Penn State or Iowa in the fanbase/TV ratings game is a fool’s errand. An 11-1 Cincy team can go enjoy whatever bowl takes in the #2 Big East team.
Ga Tech isn’t an option for the Orange Bowl if they lose to Clemson, since Clemson will already be going to the Orange Bowl — no way they’re going to play a rematch of the ACC Championship Game there. And I can’t see the Fiesta wanting them over Iowa or Penn State.
I think at this point the main thing we need to worry about is Texas beating Nebraska.
Yeah, isn't it garbage...
….to think that we could be passed up for the BCS because of a three loss Nebraska team that lost to Iowa State? Complete garbage.
I think McCoy has been overrated all season, but I have more than one reason to hope he and the rest of the Texas team put an old fashioned ass-whoopin to the Huskers and stomp a mud hole in their BCS aspirations (or something like that). God I hate Nebraska!
[For what it’s worth, I hate Texas too, but I’ll suspend the hate until after they win next week. But after that it’s HATE HATE HATE for both of them.]

I don't hate Texas
so much as I hate Mack Brown. The man is truly a piece of self-serving shit. He and Tom Osbourne have a special place in hell reserved together. That said, I will hold my nose and pull for Texas next week, and the championship game if its Florida.

NU
Living 25 miles east of Omaha and working in that town I must say that if anything were to go wrong it will be in that damned BIG 12 championship. I have to constantly put up with those retarded Husker fans. Most uneducated fans in the world. They blindly thing NU is unbeatable every year and refuse to accept that they are now an upper mid-tier team much like Iowa. With my luck the Huskers will pull it out and ruin my day. As far as Pitt goes, the famous moustache is another person that I love to hate and I can see them being the second in line to cause me a problem. Clemson showed their true colors today and will be mauled by Tech. The Ramblin Wreck is the least of our worries.

Nebraska has as close to zero chance in that game as is possible
they cannot score. Texas A&M has scored in the 50s twice this year. Nebraska is not able to stay in a track meet. Also, Nebraska is a good team against the pass on paper, ranking first in the Big 12, but when you look closer at their competition you see that Texas Tech shredded them and all other teams thy played just don’t pass the ball like TT or UT.
This will be close early and ugly late.

If Nebraska could transplant the A&M offense to their team
they would have a shot. As it is, I don’t see how they win unless (a) they injure McCoy (god forbid) or the defense/special teams manage to score at least twice.
I'm not so sure about the ACC C Game
GaTech cannot stop the run.

It is now a mute point
With GA Tech losing to Georgia, they have to win the conference championship game to get in. They are now 10-2 and the Fiesta will not like them at 10-3 if they lose to Clemson. Clemson is so shitty that likewise they have to win the ACC title game to get in so they are not a threat for an at large. Things are lining up nicely. I think you have Iowa vs. Boise St. in the Fiesta.

I hope so. My point was more that I deal with those idiots from the west side of the Missouri River all to often and it has me on edge. NU has done stupid shit to me in the past where I have lost money/face and with college football being what it is I don’t want to test my luck. Hook Em Horns.

Also
Oklahoma State’s performance today is exactly why they are – and will continue to be for the forseeable future – a “little brother” program, no matter how much cash T Boone splashes. In a game where they had a chance to keep hope alive for a Fiesta Bowl bid and really stick it to their most hated rival (who’s only having their worst season in the last decade)… they put out a 27-0 egg. Just pathetic.
If Texas loses they bump Iowa but not only because of record or BCS ranking
but because the Fiesta Bowl does not want an Iowa v. Nebraska game. This would ensure Penn State at the Fiesta in my opinion. Texas would go to the Orange.
If Texas wins, then I think it is Iowa vs. Boise State. But I will believe it when I see it. If ever there were a year for the Fiesta to select Iowa over Penn State this is the year. But…
