BLACK HEART GOLD PODCAST, EPISODE 13: RADIO BECOMES HATE-IO

Hate Week continues. Tom from The Daily Gopher is here, guns drawn. It's like a Mexican Standoff, only between nerds. (By the way, this episode is a must-listen, if only for Tom's impersonation of Tim Brewster.) Listen below or on iTunes.

I've never listened to a BHGPodcast until today.
Good work. Does the awesome introduction song play every week?

Is there a situation in which...
…I shouldn’t root for RamRod to embarass tSweatervest? Cause I really want a share of the Big XI Title (we got fucked against jfNW, and OSU haven’t earned it).
by Eyeheartfreedumb on Nov 20, 2009 11:39 AM CST reply actions 0 recs
I would say beating the three other contenders for the conference crown counts as "earning it"

Agreed
While there is an argument to be made that Iowa is just as good as OSU this year, we all know who won when they played each other.
Also, we lost to NW, they lost to USC. So there’s that.
I’d like to see OSU lose just because it’s always fun to watch them lose, plus this time we get to watch Fichigan fans argue over the PizzaPizza bowl.
In 100 years, we'll all be dead.

I think we can root for tosu to lose without remorse. However, if (a) that happens, and (b) Iowa beats the Minnesoootans, a shared title is hollow at best in that we lost to those mofos, regardless of their failings against Purdue and that dumbass in Ann Arbor. And, given the overwhelming feeling among PSU, WI and Iowa fans that tsweatervest and his minions will get their ass handed to them AGAIN in a BCS game, who gives a shit if they go into that game with 2 or 3 losses? Fuck them.

I agree that it would be a bit hollow...
but a trophy would be a nice way to cap this incredible, unforgettable season.
Plus, one more Big Ten Championship (shared or not) would tie us with Michigan for the second-most (3) this decade, which is a nice little stat.

A hollow victory
is still a victory.

Last year tOSU guys were all up in the PSU guys laughing about the shared title after PSU beat them. I know, shared or not, titles aren’t an annual thing around our parts. Nevertheless, how do you share a title with the team that beat your team? There’s a handful of things about the televen that makes me crazy. This is one of them. If a rational tie breaking procedure exists (head-to-head) AND they use it for the auto-BCS bid, I mean come on. I still hope for Michigan to win, but solely for comedic potential.
by txhawkeye on Nov 20, 2009 3:27 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I should have explained...
…growing up in the Big Ten, I just assume that OSU is the team to beat every year. This year they were a shell of themselves and any one of three other teams SHOULD HAVE taken the title, but tVest just kept hanging around and squeeked it away from us all. I really feel a bit cheated. [However, I don’t want my money back.]
I mean, c’mon. Week 10, we look like co-champs at the least, and then we lose because our one seemingly irreplacable player goes down on a fluke, and the refs can’t stand that we can still score anyway so they take it away from us, then make sure to close their eyes during the final drive so the Fightin Fitzes can horsecollar tackle our receivers as the ball is being thrown, thus insuring there is no comeback from Team Clutch.
Then we go to the Shoe with a RS Frosh getting his first start with the Big Ten title and Rose Bowl on the line and play to a draw (which before they started overtimes would have actually sent us to the Rose Bowl) until said freshman takes an unfortunate sack in the extra period.
I guess I was just saying that they didn’t blow anyone out of the water this year, but I can already hear the fanbase saying “4 out of 5” or whatever it is. If they were dominant I would give it to em, but they were the recipient of a lot of lucky breaks. It just seems like this year should end in a four way tie with the way everything has gone. I mean “the big ten sucks” or whatever.
Mainly I was just curious if it would fuck up our BCS hopes (which we deserve) if Bitchigan won. It sounds like “no” so here’s to hoping Dickwad DickRod saves his job so he can fuck up Michigan for another year (I don’t actually think he’s on the hotseat, but I like being able to point out that UM is in shambles).
Sorry, I’m not trying to be a whiney little bitch rehashing old stuff, but I just like to see anyone but OSU win it, and I think with the way our team has played (all things considered) they deserve a share of the title. There. I’m done.
by Eyeheartfreedumb on Nov 20, 2009 3:27 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I would have to agree.
tOSU stepped it up when they had to and took the BXI crown from us. I will still be hoping that DickRod can pull this out and give us a shared BXI title though. On second thought, if tSweatvest (thanks Eyeheartfreedumb), loses to DickRod, Delaney should give us the BXI title alone, on account of tOSU losing to Purdue and Michigan.

“If you get a customer, or an employee, who thinks he’s Charles Bronson, take the butt of your gun and smash their nose in. Everybody jumps. He falls down screaming, blood squirts out of his nose, nobody says fucking shit after that. You might get some bitch talk shit to you, but give her a look like you’re gonna smash her in the face next, watch her shut the fuck up.”

It's just wee bit on the violent side.
In another matter, I was watching WW2 in HD last night on the History Channel (ok, ok, I was flipping back and forth between the CO vs OkST game and the history channel – too bad CO didn’t win). Anyway, my middle school daughter came in the room when footage of the Nazi death camps was rolling, in color. You know the scene, tossing bodies like cordwood onto a wagaon, walking skeletons, and pure misery. She was more than a little appalled, she said “It’s so sad, I wish I could go back and give those people a hug.” What astounds me, is the scale of the killing and just how recent in time it all happened (and I’m not talking about last years MN game).

Disappointing Hate Week
Hate (hahaha) to say it, but this year’s version of Hate Week has fallen a little flat. Lots of reasons, probably, chief among them being that Minnesota fans don’t have the mirage of a 7-1 start to hang their hopes on and are resigned to the fact that their team really is no better than .500. But the silence has been deafening from Gopher land, BuddyLee hasn’t come on here trying to stir things up, and even PantherHawk gets largely ignored (a fate which he truly deserves). Just seems like no one’s bringing the fire this year.
Such a shame.

I've been thinking that very thing.
Even going over to TDG, there are almost as many basketball posts as there are Hate Week posts. Sadly, even the Hate Week posts aren’t really that hateful.

Maybe we should start playing jfNW for Floyd?
Minny’s heart just hasn’t been in it for a while (sure they stil get fired up, but it doesn’t really seem to mean much to them- – which is why we have it).

I prefer not to give the jNW any more attention than they get now
They are, however, just chomping at the bit hoping that we’ll take the bait and elevate them to the same level of importance the put us.

Consider
Sports Illustrated did a fan poll
that covered, among other things, who was considered the biggest conference rival. Turns out the Goofer faithful are focused on Wisco.
