Press release from the Iowa media relations folks..

It looks like Iowa has started its full court press on the national media.  This email went out nationwide today....

GET THE CORRECT FACTS ON IOWA FOOTBALL

It seems popular for national pundits to criticize the University of Iowa football team these days. Many have said Iowa doesn’t belong on the same board with Florida, Texas, Alabama, Cincinnati, TCU, Oregon or Boise State. Iowa’s schedule has been rated the seventh toughest in the nation. Only one team in Big Ten history has beaten Penn State, Michigan State and Wisconsin on the road in the same season (Michigan did it in 1997). The two schools Iowa does not play in the Big Ten this year have the worst overall records (Purdue and Illinois) in the league. To say Iowa hasn’t played a strong enough schedule is to be totally misinformed. Please look at the facts below.

Number of opponents defeated that currently have winning records:

1. Iowa 6

2. Cincinnati 4

TCU 4

4. Oregon 3

5. Boise State 2

Total won-lost records (and winning %) of defeated opponents:

1. Iowa 44-31 .586

2. Oregon 29-28 .508

3. TCU 34-33 .507

4. Cincinnati 30-36 .454

5. Boise State 27-37 .421

Total won-lost records of opponents defeated in their home stadiums (i.e. road wins)

1. Iowa 23-12 .657

2. TCU 19-14 .575

3. Cincinnati 21-20 .512

4. Boise State 14-18 .437

5. Oregon 6-10 .375

Number of defeated opponents ranked in current BCS Top 25:

1. Iowa 3 (Penn State, Arizona, Wisconsin)

Oregon 3 (USC, Utah, California)

3. Boise State 1 (Oregon)

4. Cincinnati 1 (South Florida)

5. TCU 0

Won-lost records of remaining teams left on schedule:

1. Iowa 17-10 .629

2. Oregon 19-12 .612

3. Cincinnnati 19-13 .593

4. Boise State 20-22 .476

5. TCU 15-17 .468

Interesting that they don't even try to move

the big 3 at the top of the board. We’re just arguing that we should be #4, and let the chips fall where they may after that.

It never gets to be easy

Agreed...

esp. when you consider the numbers still stack up in our favor.

This is the "I hate Doug Gottlieb post"

…and the rest of the ESPN douchbags that don’t understand good football. Today on his radio show Doug said that Iowa is absolutely not a top 5 team and that he would love to see Boise State pick us apart.

FUCK YOU DOUG!

WE’RE IOWA….BIATCH!

Gottlieb

Maybe Iowa could find a way to “steal” a win against Boise State and bank up some “credit” with Mr. Gottlieb.

What a flaming douche. At this point, though, there does seem to be a concerted effort by the WWL to downplay/criticize/dismiss the Iowa team. Only Mark May is staunchly in our corner. Which means WE’RE FUCKED.

I ate the blue ones ... they taste like burning.

I had a conversation today with a UT grad. From his perspective, he thought Iowa fans aren’t even arguing for a NC berth (me included) – just upset about lack of respect. It seems evident most of us know if Floribama and Texas are undefeated there’s no way we’re jumping them. So, really, on reflection I’m not sure exactly what we’re all twisted about. If we can somehow win the conference, at worst we’re going to the Rose Bowl. The rest of it is out of our control. So, fuck them. This team makes me insane, but it’s the craziest fucking thing I’ve ever seen. I really hope they win next Saturday, go to Columbus 10-0, where no tOSU person gives us a chance in hell (um, guys, you play at PSU this week, maybe you ought to focus on that) and see what happens. I swear, I’m going to try to enjoy this, but I get too nervous to do so most games.

With good reason...

we’ve won the close games dispite ourselves. But I’m convinced that we’re going to come out firing on all cylinders for the rest of year and win out this schedule! We have to! I’ll admit my nerves are shot until the game is won, but I’ve got good reason to believe that THIS team has a lot of help. You see, my Dad passed away this September (right before the PSU game as a matter of fact). His long-time friend passed earlier in the summer months, and Dad followed him up to the big concession stand in the sky. They’ve had some great seats all year long! There maybe no beer upstairs, but knowing those two, they snock a couple of flasks under their jackets and are celebrating this season with the rest of the dearly departed Iowa faithful! So, you see, Iowa is gonna win it all this year!

How much would a full page ad in the LA Times...

with huge bold faced fonts saying “F*uck You, We’re Iowa” cost? I’ll chip in $10.
