What Stanzi will have to do from the sidelines is help freshman quarterback James Vandenberg lead the Hawkeyes in "Stanziball," which has become Iowa's brand of winning this season.
The Cleveland Plain Dealer. If Vandenberg breaks out the STANZIBALL, we are losing by 50.

I'll bet some of us are sitting here all the time
Just waiting for a new post to be the first to post “We’re Fucked.”

I'd like to think that Vandenball is similar to Stanziball
But with much less throwing to Tacopants. However, if he gets a case of the Christensen’s I will cry. I don’t think I can take any more throws into the dirt.
Agreed.
STANZIBALLS are incredibly frustrating…but they’re so damn beautiful. At least until they land in the waiting arms of the opponent. Christiensen’s passes at the feet of wide open receivers made me want to blind myself by watching reruns of Step by Step for hours on end.

Why the hate on Step by Step?
Granted, I never watched the show, but the girls were hot.
I ate the blue ones ... they taste like burning.
How dare you attack Patrick Duffy on this site.
Before you respond, let me remind you: Brian Cook called me smug, which makes me the Obama of smugness. I'm basically Smugbama.

I would never insult Patrick Duffy directly.
It was more the creepy kid with the red glasses that makes me shiver to this day.

Vandenburg will have to...
approach this game in a similar fashion that Terrelle Pryor approached the Penn State game. Ferentz will have to emphasize the no turnover gameplan — hope that the defense hold OSU to a low enough score to pull out a W for you guys. Should be a good game — can’t wait ’til 3:30!!!
They've got us surrounded
the poor bastards.
Soldier with the 101st Airborne, Bastogne (Battle of the Bulge, WWII)

In 100 years, we'll all be dead.
To the U.S.A. Commander of the encircled town of Bastogne.
The fortune of war is changing. This time the U.S.A. forces in and near Bastogne have been encircled by strong German armored units. More German armored units have crossed the river Our near Ortheuville, have taken Marche and reached St. Hubert by passing through Hompre-Sibret-Tillet. Libramont is in German hands.
There is only one possibility to save the encircled U.S.A. troops from total annihilation: that is the honorable surrender of the encircled town. In order to think it over a term of two hours will be granted beginning with the presentation of this note.
If this proposal should be rejected one German Artillery Corps and six heavy A. A. Battalions are ready to annihilate the U.S.A. troops in and near Bastogne. The order for firing will be given immediately after this two hours term.
All the serious civilian losses caused by this artillery fire would not correspond with the well-known American humanity.
The German Commander.
Aw, nuts!

Wonder if the team should see Inglorious Basterds
Yes, its totally made up and ridiculous, but does the team still watch movies the night before a big game like they did under Hayden? Besides, the movies’ premise ain’t much different than our season, in terms of being totally ridiculous.
We’re fucked.

I'm calling it.
Stanzi doesn’t start another game after this.
Not happening.
Even if The Mandenberg plays lights out in these next two games, there is no way KF wouldn’t start a healthy Stanzi in the bowl game. Coach is way too traditional and conservative – I think he’d risk losing the team, as such a move would be a slap in the face to Stanzi, lest we forget who got the team to 9-0 to begin with and had jNW in the palm of his hands before the injury.
However, IF Iowa finishes 11-1 and Stanzi is merely 90% healthy at bowl time, then KF starts Vandenberg without a doubt.
As for next season, that will all depend on spring camp.

really
he’d go with a guy that has 5 picks in a single game over the guy who won on the road at OSU. (Assuming he plays well) As well as beating our rival Minnesota?
KF isn’t that stubborn….
5 Interceptions
in a bad wind.
He’s the same guy who led multiple come from behind drives, has been lauded for his leadership abilities, and the team is firmly behind.
In 100 years, we'll all be dead.
Stanzi starts next year
and probably the bowl game which is 6 to 7 weeks away. Hopefully a couple of injured players are back by then.
Nothing against JV, he can take us 3-0 from here, I just don’t see KF & KOK taking away the starting job. They didn’t want to pull Christensen for pete’s sake.
In 100 years, we'll all be dead.
Assumptions...
This all assumes Iowa makes a bowl game.
Amirite?
[insert prophetic yet obnoxiously haughty and annoying quote here]
We have 9 wins
with a realistic shot at 10 and the fans travel well. We’re going to a bowl game.
In 100 years, we'll all be dead.
They got it back-asswards
Stanziball is the adversity to overcome, not the style of winning. It’s like giving the BCS credit for USC’s AP championship after the 2003 season. It’s like saying that PENN SCHTAAATE owes its recent successes to JoePa’s youth and virility. It’s like saying that Notre Dame is brave and determined to continue on alone if they have to, having gotten shunned by every single conference it has begged to join.

Would that include
the Big 10 in 1999 when Notre Dame withdrew from negotiations to join after their board of trustees nixed the idea?
In 100 years, we'll all be dead.
My point exactly.
Seems that ND absolutely must be the center of all attention at every single given moment. A prima donna attitude that has morphed into the ultimate Napoleon Complex in the last decade.

After watching JvB's high school football highlights
on youtube, I’m pretty sure that we’ll be okay. Sure, the 3A District 5 ain’t got nothing on any BXI defense (unless you happen to be Oskaloosa back in the day that TMFS was terrorizing JvB and other 3A D5 QBs), but the kid has got touch on the ball – kinda makes me wonder how he missed DJK on that fade route last week (nerves I guess) and displays quite the laser arm with great accuracy. 7,700 yards and 50+ TDs ain’t nothing to gloss over… Not only did he break like every single 3A passing record, but he put up 3 TDs against Wegher’s crew in 2007 for the state championship. I think JvB is ready to come out of his shell in Columbus. Spring ball will be interesting next year.
KOK, you might be a genius...
