I don't know why this matters...
...and I am not sure that it does, but through 5 games last year Shonn Greene had rushed 99 times for 665 yards and 5 touchdowns. He also had 5 receptions for 22 yards. Through 5 games this year the duo of Adam Robinson and Brandon Wegher have rushed 135 times for 628 yards and 6 touchdowns. They have combined for 12 catches for 95 yards, so from a total yardage standpoint, they are ahead of where Greene was at this point in the season. Now, realistically you cannot say we are better off at running back than we were a year ago, but considering Hampton's injury we are in pretty good shape and the numbers bare that out. Greene had a huge second half last year, so it will be interesting to see if our offense can start clicking and have a similar breakout this season. Oh yeah, and fuck Michigan.

Nicely put!
Fuck Michigan.
I also find it really hard to believe our Frosh RB’s are at the same yardage as was Mr. Greene, especially after the Ark. St. game (we fucking sucked running/opening holes).
If the O-line would play with just a little motivation, it is hard to imagine anyone on our remaining schedule blowing us out of the water, let alone beating us (realistically).
Oh, and Fuck Michigan!
Hawks....yup, I like 'em
The optimist in me
looks at those numbers, remembers that we genearally get stronger as the year goes on, and thinks that we’re in for a great year.
The pessimist knows that even with those numbers, this offense hasn’t been consistant enough to win games without massive defensive help, and you can’t rely on turnovers.
It never gets to be easy
Even the best Iowa teams of the
Ferentz era never really blew teams away. The obvious (and only) exception to that is 2002, and even then, they didn’t start to wipe the floor with people until right about this point of the season.
Kinda agree
The optimist in me says: at this point last year we were 3-2 (soon to be 3-3), and our offense, outside of Maine and FIU wasn’t exactly putting up Big XII scores every week. In fact, one of the biggest problems was our red zone offense, too many FGs, not enough TDs (or worse, STANZIBALLS, see eg MSU game). This leads me to hope that we’re about to go on an upswing.
The pessimist in me says: even if we weren’t scoring as much, we were doing a much better job of moving the ball, and at least eating up a lot of clock. I haven’t looked at the stats, but something tells me Donahue has a lot more punts this year than he did last year at the same point. Which tends to indicate offensive deficiency. And there hasn’t been a lot of visual evidence to indicate we’re on the verge of an offensive explosion.
Oh, and FUCK MICHIGAN
I ate the blue ones ... they taste like burning.
I think it will be tough to keep up with Greene's pace in the 2nd half of the season
He went apeshit in the back half of the season last year.
Iowa plays 5 of the top 7 rush defenses in the back half of the season this year. Granted, the run game has, bizarrely, been at its best this year against the toughest defenses we’ve faced (Arizona, Penn State), but it’s difficult to expect that to happen in all of our remaining games. I fully expect OSU in the Shoe to swallow up our run game and force Stanzi to beat them.
There is a better even chance
that Iowa does the same thing to them, and forces Pryor to beat them with his arm. It’s very easy to see that game turning into the type of game it was in 2003, when OSU won 19-10 without scoring an offensive touchdown. In fact, all the touchdowns in that game came on special teams.
OSU’s run game hasn’t impressed me so far. I think it will come down to home field advantage and QB efficency.
DO YOU HAVE PRIDE, DANNY?

But they have BOOM!
BOOM FUCKING HERRON!! Never mind that on 3 successive runs from the 1 yard line against USC he couldn’t get it into the end zone, he’s an amazing runner. His nickname is motherfucking BOOM!
I ate the blue ones ... they taste like burning.
This is a fundamentally flawed comparison
And I think you know why.
What do the stats look like with A-Rob and Wegher compared with, oh, Greene and Hampton at this time last season?
Moreover, for how many quarters were each player healthy through this portion of the season?
I got more rhymes than Wade Lookingbill's got dunks
Yeah, I know the flaws...
it was merely a nugget of info that I found mildly interesting.
"I'm not doing any good back here."
difference is in # of rushes
Greene averaging 6.7 per carry at this time last year
Robinegher averaging 4.7 per carry. Respectable, but can’t carry the offense like Greene could. And Greene was just warming up and getting back into game shape.
Brunettes not fighter jets
Wegherson
I realize why Robinson’s name should be first, but something about Robinegher doesn’t sound right. Can’t quite put my finger on it….

Good catch, sir.
It didn’t even hit me until I said it out loud.

I was wondering how long it would take RR to show up with the gif
It only took 45 minutes

I don't know why this matters either
but it is interesting to me that (like last year) through 5 games we don’t have any long breakaway TD runs either. Our rushing game is similar to last year’s workman like grinding rush game.
I would think with Wegher back there we should see some of the big plays coming up like Shonn delivered in the 2nd half of last season. We need to get him in the open field.
Why not Iowa????
Well, we haven't played Wisconsin yet.
That oughtta be good for three or four bursts of over 25 yards.
