BLACK HEART GOLD PODCAST, EPISODE 8: MGODCAST

Mgotpaid_medium
That never gets old.

It's Michigan week.  It's Brian Cook.  It's BHGP.  You might expect that would translate into 45 minutes of Lincoln-Douglas-style debate over resume ranking and Mary Sue Coleman, but we were forced to shoehorn this in between playoff baseball games yesterday (damn you October and your sports).  As a result, the podcast is as quick and focused as Tim Dwight.  We'll save the hand-to-hand combat for Saturday morning.

Running backs

It wasn’t covered in the podcast (probably because it wasn’t news when the casting of the pod commenced), but apparently it’s looking like Carlos Brown will be out for the game per MGoBlog. That coupled with Minor likely being limited means we may see a lot of Michigan’s 3rd string RB. Which would be fabulous if I didn’t have memories of how well UNI’s third string RB did against us.

Backup running back

The 3rd stringer is Michael Shaw, the four-star that Rodriguez snake-oiled from a Penn State commitment in the Carr/Rodriguez hybrid recruiting class. No shame in being 3rd behind the Brown/Minor duo really. He was limited last year some by a sports hernia, the surgery to correct it held him out of spring practice.

He’s pretty quick and also fast. 30 pounds smaller than Brown, but Brown’s way too easy to tackle for his size while Shaw does a decent job of keeping himself moving even if he often looks like he’s about to fall down (it’s pretty weird to watch), so Shaw can probably do a pretty good job replacing him. Trial by fire though — he’ll be the primary back next year most likely, this should be pretty interesting to see how he fares with this opportunity, because it’s obviously a tough defense in a tough atmosphere.

Cook's comment on outcome I thought was good.

He said they’d lose — but if we throw another pick-6, that would be difference and they’d win.

Basically, subtracting 7 from our 24 ppg average (subtracting the hypothetical pick-6), he’s saying we can’t beat them if we score a net 17. I would agree with that.

I need a new microphone

Apparently $10 doesn’t buy state of the art equipment these days. Who knew?

I got more rhymes than Wade Lookingbill's got dunks
