BLACK HEART GOLD PODCAST, EPISODE 10: WELCOME TO THE ROCK

Firelynch3_medium

Ah, Indiana football.  It would be so quaint if it didn't beat us so regularly.  I need not remind you of Kellen Lewis and The Receiver Who Will Not Be Named, but in a week where Iowa is 8-0 and Indiana is mired in its usual mediocrity, the fact that neither will play this week is probably the best news we can get.

For this week's podcast, we're joined by the helplessly professional John M., creator of the Hoosier Report and now managing editor of Crimson Quarry, the SBN Indiana blog.  We'll discuss the inexplicable recent vote of confidence in Bill Lynch, the current status of Kellen Lewis, and the state of Indiana football with 4 weeks left to play.

That was the sound of a broken man

“I don’t know…they’re okay…I guess I can’t complain too much”

Give that man a hug

that guy was very depressed.

Really, I’m not that depressed. It’s just that my natural charisma level makes Bill Lynch look like Terry Hoeppner.

Oops Pow Surprise sums it up nicely at 6:02

John M: “Northwestern still didn’t play great, they threw three interceptions in the second half, but um…”

OPS: “Ugghhkkk”

No self-respecting man from Iowa goes anywhere without beer

Fun Facts about this game that make me want to dunk my head in acid:
Since Cam Cameron became IU’s coach in 1997, IU is 5-5 against Iowa. Iowa is the only team Big Ten team aghainst whom IU has a .500 or better record in that period. Since 1997, only Illinois (the Hoosiers are now 6-7 against Illinois since 1997) has lost more games to IU than Iowa has. Another fun fact for Iowa fans: Since Mallory was fired, IU has won only five Big Ten road games, and Iowa is the only multiple victim (1999, 2007).

So...

Iowa fails to Indiana (5-5 record)
Indiana fails to Penn State (0-12 record)
Penn State fails to Iowa (2-7 in the last 9)

Sadly

we’ve done an admirable job failing to jNW as well

It never gets to be easy

But wait...

Cam Cameron was a great coach. So there is no shame in those losses. :)

How in God’s name have we managed to win shares of two Big Ten titles (and fingers crossed, another this year) in that span while losing that many games to Indiana University?

I guess the 1999 loss at Kinnick shouldn’t be that surprising, but the 2007 one really stung. I think I can trace the beginnings of my liver problem to that weekend.

I've sentenced boys younger than you to the gas chamber. Didn't want to do it. I felt I owed it to them.

Week After Podcast

I would have loved to listen to a podcast where you brought back LVS from The Only Colors to talk about the Michigan State game. Imagine the possibilities: a discussion about the helmet to helmet mugging that Colin Sandeman experienced, Sparty VICTORY!, and then SPARTY NOOOOOOO! EPIC FAIL!

They took the bar, the whole fucking bar!
