New Cambus Schedule
In response to a string of injuries in the Hawkeye's backfield, the University of Iowa has tentatively decided to change the Cambus schedule this coming Saturday. Ordinarily, the Oakdale bus would pick up passengers at the VA loop at 10:45 am, continue to Student Health at 10:47 and then make its way to the Oakdale lot around 11:06 am.
Instead, the Oakdale route has been ommitted in order to make room for a new bus, which will be driven by Brad Rogers. Just after kickoff, "The Cambus" will begin pick up at various points on the field and drop off passengers in the opposing endzone. This route will be repeated into the afternoon. Oakdale service will resume on Sunday.

All aboard, motherfuckers.

With a head that large, it's no wonder he "runs downhill!"
Fucking awesome, HFMR. Outstanding.
This kid better have 17 touchdowns and over 1,000 yards rushing by halftime of the jNWU game, or he’s clearly a bust.

the bus was the “shame train” , i for one want a bus pass now. You’ve made the city transit cool again HFMR, quite the achievement! Bravo, Bravo

Anybody of a "certain age" like me....
….and remember when the Cambus actually had FACES painted on them? There was a Dracula, a Clown, and so on.
Somehow, it hurts less when you’re run down by a twenty ton Dracula, which is prolly why they did that. I recall this was in the late 70’sm when I was a kid living in IC at the time.
If it's not too much trouble, search your soul--and then ask yourself if maybe I might have a point.

ME, TOO!
Yep, middle of the ’seventies and Iowa gets a grant to start up the “Cambus”. At first they were green school busses, then they got a dozen or so used from some big city (Detroit?), sort of refurbished them, had a big contest to name the program (it was called U of I Mass Transit or some such thing), “Cambus” won, after a 12 month shake down it became permanent.
How do I know? I was one of the original—as in "first—drivers. Lasted through the summer but was relieved of duties, seems there’s a rule against drinking beer (I don’t do that anymore) and driving a bus.
By the way, that first summer some friends of mine took yellow spray paint, covered the second hump of the “M” in Cambus, then dotted the free standing leg, turning the “M” into an “N” and and “I”. Now it spelled “Canibus”. Get it?

“Relieved” of duties. I’ve never gotten that. Who, exactly, is relieved? And seriously, no one deserves to drink on the job more than a Cambus driver, although it sounds like you missed the joy of driving one of those bad boys in the snow and ice.

Working for Cambus
was one of the best experiences of my life. Approach it with the right mindset, and it is a testosterone-laden show of authority. Oh, how I loved PWNing the crab-asses commuting to the UIHC on a daily basis!

had to fanshot the image on Stampede Blue for the benefit of the large IU contingent.

Being waaaaaay out here...
in Trojan-ville, I know nothing about this “Cambus”. So, tell me, can he DRIVE AND SCORE?
by Zulu on Oct 28, 2009 6:46 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Ever driven one
I began Cambus training but qyuot after o hit three band members outside of Hancher.
Anyway, great post HFMR.
And you can take that to the bank.
by Hawkeye X on Oct 28, 2009 6:52 AM CDT via mobile reply actions 0 recs
Judging by some of the Cambus drivers I know, that’s not great driving. Unless you were complaining about your job while you were doing it and blaming the band members. Then it’s merely the norm for Cambus drivers.

HFMR is simply the best.

Truly Classic
HFMR, my hats off to you. As a person who used to drive the Oakdale route, you clearly did some research (or used to drive the bus as well) to get those stop times. I sent it over to a few people I still know who work at Cambus, and they enjoyed it.

Why do buses always run over the corner curb?
Because they can.

…you should be required to check into AA when visiting that bar after 2 AM. I can’t tell you how many times my friends visiting from out of town have talked me into going there because they can’t drink after some arbitrary time like 1:30 or 2 AM.
I for one will be at Merkle’s though, and I’ll be rocking the ISU Girls Aren’t Trash Shirt.
