MSU=QB(Bitchmade)2

I have been reading up quite a bit on MSU and it looks like Nichols and Cousins are both going to play.  This could be a ploy by the MSU staff to make preparation more difficult for us, however I watched the MSU coaches show on the Big Ten Network last night and they said they are planning on both QB's playing.

From what I have been able to gather, MSU looks to have a very good passing attack, 1st in the Big 10, however the run game seems to leave quite a bit to be desired.

Defensively, the linebackers are awesome and appear to be very stout agains the run.  The d-line looks pretty average, 1 tackle for loss against jNWU.  The secondary is by all accounts downright bad.  9th in the Big 10 and they really haven't played great passing teams in conference yet.  Notre Dame &  Central Michigan each hung 400 yards passing on them, Michigan & Wisconsin came in around 300.  Juice Williams managed 100 yards passing with only playing a half.  Another encouraging sign is that there are a few fan posts on the espn MSU page bitching about how much their secondary sucks.

I don't think MSU has faced a defensive front 4 as good as Iowa's and I am predicting we hear the names of Clayborn and Binns called many times.

Offensively, we will probably play very conservative early, trying to establish the run and bring up the talented linebackers of MSU, however I see us pulling away with play action to Moekei and rolling out Stanzi.

GO Hawks!!!!!

Agreed

I think our defense is too talented and i see at least 2 picks in this game and a possible fumble. I don’t see either of MSUs’ QB’s doing much of anything.

Some douchebag

(or as I have started calling douchebags this season: Claussen) said on BTN last night that his bold statement for Saturday was that MSU would not throw a pick and would beat Iowa. I am not sure if Iowa will win or not, but thinking this D won’t cause a single turnover is just stupid.

Unless I am mistaken

Cousins/Nichol is the least sacked QB in the league. You’ll have better luck getting turn overs from the RBs than the QBs.

Ok, but besides Wisky.....

Who is the best defense they have faced? When you’re front 3 or 4 (depending on the defense) can’t get penetration you’re not going to get alot of sacks. We only sacked DC17 twice but pressured him so much that he made poor throws, and that all it takes.

Some of it depends on the mental makeup of QB, IMO

Clark put too much pressure on himself as the game wore on because he had to “redeem himself”, etc. I doubt Cousins has the same mentality that Clark had.

Some...

But we have infact bitchmade quite a few QB’s this year. From what I have seen, there is no reason it won’t happen again against MSU. Let’s face it, our D fucks with QB’s minds.

Aside from that, we’re fucked.

You don't need to sack the QB to get a turn over

You need to make him run around scared for his life. That is when you get turn overs. Sacking just ends the plays and changes field position, not that there is anything wrong with that.

Looking at their past game stats

It seems like Michigan State has made some very mediocre opposing QBs look like All-Americans. I think Swingin’ Dick will have a very nice day.

Why not Iowa????

I have to wonder though

will we actually use this to our advantage, or will we run into the pile a lot?

I would love to see them air it out, again, pass to set up the run. I just don’t believe it will happen.

Why the no faith?

Doesn’t KOK always draw up a gameplan that plays to our strenghths? Oh wait….

I watched their game with UM and part of their game with ND

Cousins is the most effective of the two. Against UM, when he was in rhythm, Dantonio would pull him to give Nichols a series. I didn’t understand the strategy behind it.

I think you're being too kind

… in assuming there was a “strategy” behind it. I got featured in This Week in Schadenfreude after the Wisconsin game for wondering why the hell Dantonio thought it was a good idea to try the same thing that had been an absolute disaster against CMU and ND.

MSU is going to try to win this game

in a shootout. They probably do not think they can stop Iowa’s offense consistently (or at least they would be wise to think that) so they are going to bank on Cousins, and on home turf, to make for a big game. They know they cannot win a 17-13 game.

So I think the key will be which QB makes most throws to other team and time of possession. Given Cousins’ lack of experience in big games (he’s played zero) and knowing that MSU has not played a very good opponent this year, I like Iowa something like 34-21. Late TD by Michigan State.

This is a HORRIBLE match-up for Michigan State. Our O-line finally plays a team that they can bully. And MSU’s O-line is OK, so I expect some pressure there.
