BLOGLIVEOPENTHREADGAME 3.0: STILL UNDEFEATED

It wasn't pretty, and it looked a little dicey at the break. But then it was the second half, and Iowa kills people in the second half.

Let us gather our thoughts, watch Ohio State try to lose a slapfight with Purdue, and comment here.

Also, suck it, Bielema.

Perhaps my best years are gone. When there was a chance of happiness. But I wouldn't want them back. Not with the fire in me now. No, I wouldn't want them back.

Now there's some appropriate field rushing

Luck is probability taken personally, clutch is probability attributed to individuals.

by shake n bake on Oct 17, 2009 2:18 PM CDT reply actions

Are people seriously upset that we rushed the field in that game?

We’ve beaten Michigan like ten times ever, that game was awesome, and it was the end to a awesome day. Plus, rushing the field is always fun, and the team seemed to love it

by NorseHawk on Oct 17, 2009 2:21 PM CDT up reply actions

I just feel one thing is necessary for a field rush...

You shouldn’t be favored to win. Iowa is a much better team than Michigan. The game shouldn’t have been that close…save the rush for Minnesota if we keep on rolling.

by Argulor on Oct 17, 2009 2:24 PM CDT up reply actions

Yes, because nothing says shocker like beating the Gophers.

by NorseHawk on Oct 17, 2009 2:26 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm with Arg.

Rushing the field was dumb. It’s justifiable, but still dumb. 10 win streak, 6-0, rare win over Michigan, but still dumb. Iowa was favored, and should have expected to win.

by The Mexican't on Oct 17, 2009 2:26 PM CDT up reply actions

Eh, I say let the fans have fun.

If you don’t want to rush the field, you don’t have to.

by Adam Jacobi on Oct 17, 2009 2:27 PM CDT up reply actions

I can understand this argument, as well.

I’ve been on the field at Kinnick no less than 4 times, and only a couple were justifiable. Iowa-Michigan ‘03 and last year’s Penn State game are the only times I had enough reason to be on the field. But every time was a blasty.

by The Mexican't on Oct 17, 2009 2:30 PM CDT up reply actions

not seriously upset, but I was a bit embarassed

kind of an “act like you’ve been there before” type thing. Yeah their Michigan, but Iowa was a top 15 ranked team and they were unranked.

I was an hour late so had to go the DVR, never got caught up. I have several thoughts, but first, fuck you, Bob Griese. What is that should be 3-3 fucking bullshit? Fuck you. What a shitbag.

Second, other than his fumble, boy did Stanzi manage that game. I’m not exactly stunned we won, but it looked lousy in the first 1/2. Sorry to digress from tOSU laughathon. Oh, and we don’t play Purdue this year.

by txhawkeye on Oct 17, 2009 2:19 PM CDT reply actions

12-0 Iowa only jumps USC in the computers.

We’d be begging the human polls to have a lil sense. Iowa will need a strong victory in Columbus to convince the human voters that we’re on par with the So Cal Trojans.

Of course, that’s assuming they run the table. If Oregon finds a way, there’s not really any question. A 12-0 BigTen team should ALWAYS play for the MNC. I don’t care what the media thinks, running the table in the BigTen is an incredible feat.

Scoreboard checkin'...

And UNI lost to Southern Illinois? Wow.

by RossWB on Oct 17, 2009 7:30 PM CDT reply actions

Thankfully

We’ve done enough since that I no longer feel like I have to try to justify that game. Because the whole “GREATEST I-AA TEAM EVAR” thing doesn’t work so well now.

by NorseHawk on Oct 17, 2009 7:35 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah, I think our road wins over PSU and Wisco tell our story pretty well.

Plus the win over Michigan (even if they still aren’t Michigan yet.)

But I did think UNI looked like a very good team, both against us and in subsequent games against I-AA teams. Anyone know how many games they can lose and still make the playoffs?

by RossWB on Oct 17, 2009 7:41 PM CDT up reply actions

A lot depends...

on how the other teams in the Missouri Valley Football Conference do. Right now, SIU and SDSU are ahead of UNI in that conference.

There are 32 spots now in the FCS playoffs, and 14 conferences. So, that leaves 18 at-large berths. Unless UNI really goes to hell, they should, at worst, slip in in one of the last few of those 18.

UNI has two losses right now (including the Iowa one, which the tourney people will probably ignore or use in UNI’s favor). So, UNI can probably lose one more game and still get in. 2 or more losses after today, and it gets dicey.

Hopefully this is a bump in the road for UNI. I am rooting for them to make a run at the I-AA title.

by RossWB on Oct 17, 2009 9:00 PM CDT up reply actions

Thanks, Ross.

But, if UNI can’t beat SIU in the dome, then I’m not sure I see how they can make a long run in the playoffs, (which, with today’s loss) they will now have to play some playoffs on the road.

To ChiTown: that is the only explanation that is worth a darn. However, the fact that it was in such weird fashion (a one point win despite two FG tries by the other team) means that they will be reminding us of this for at least a year or two. That win against UNI was about as close to the Mich-App State scenario as we have recently seen or will see for awhile in Iowa.
