Now That DJK’s "With The Program"
[Bumped, but let's let Mr. Harty decide if DJK's actually With The Program first, sir. He's the expert.--OPS]
Let’s look at how he’s doing with the potential chase for the all time receiving record oft-talked about in the offseason.
Post Michigan game, he now sits at 1,322 career receiving yards, 949 yards behind Tim Dwight’s career Iowa record of 2,271. Assuming Iowa makes a bowl game this year and next, and assuming DJK fights off injuries, that leaves 20 games left in his Iowa career. He would need to average only 47.45 yards/game to surpass Dwight on the all time list.
Post Michigan, he has 93 career receptions, 64 receptions behind Kevin Kasper’s career record of 157 receptions. Using the same assumptions, DJK would need to average 3.2 receptions/game in order to lead Iowa all time in receptions.
I for one am excited to see that DJK is healthy and back “with the Program.” I hope he gets a jump start on reaching these career achievements this week at Wisconsin.

…the program gets with YOU.

THE Program.
I’m glad I’m with it.

How many catches does he have this year--eight? Ten?
What a weird situation. The guy comes up big when we need a really big play, but he’s not in there much for the small ones.
The whole thing is rather strange. Hopefully will be corrected at Wisky.

11 for 201 and a touchdown.
Which is a bit higher than I thought, actually. Despite barely seeming to play much, he has the fifth most receptions and third-most yardage on the team.
by RossWB on Oct 16, 2009 11:08 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
More yardage certainly than I thought...
…..an average of almost 20 yds/catch is tremendous.
Any way you look at it, the guy needs to see the field more often.
Eleven catches over six games is LESS than two per game. Just odd, really odd, for a guy about to become your program’s reception leader with a season and a half left to play.

That was the first thing I said to my old roommate when Tomlin took over.
And, being as dumb as we are, we laughed about it all year.

Joe Cane is the Best
Joe Cane prefers Sprite to Beer. Lattimer was awesome. A Hawkeye broke that LB’s leg.
I loved that movie.

A Hawkeye??
It wasn’t just any any Hawkeye. It was our best left gaurd ever…“Thigpen”. Get with the program.

I liked the Iowa appearance there more than the one in WATERBOY.
We weren’t in RUDY, were we?

I played college football with a guy...
that was an extra in Rudy. It’s great for the “six degrees of Kevin Bacon” game.

Trip to Madison Brings up Good Memories
First time seeing DJK, because of injuries and he was all over the field that day. Except on the end of the bomb Jake the Snake threw at the end of the game, I think that was Cheney getting tripped by his own feet. I’ve often wondered if that pass had been complete, would we be talking about JC6 at QB still?

Not after the Pitt game last year.
It was his lack of improvement from 2007-2008 that bothered most people—went to DeBerg’s place to train and all, then he comes out and throws lasers right on the numbersright into the turf or ten feet over the receiver’s head, like he always did.

Hahahahaha Good Point
Although, according to him it was Iowa’s weight-training program messing with his mechanics. Given his performance for the sex panthers: 102/161 for 1227, 11TD, 4Int, 7.6 yds per completion, QB rating 144.9 maybe there’s some truth to that. Might that explain the number of STANZIBALLS we’ve seen this year?
by eight (toes) is enough on Oct 16, 2009 3:28 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Playing I-AA would also explain some of that
And I kinda doubt Stanzi’s mechanics are causing to throw the football directly at opposing defensive backs with no Iowa players in the area.

That and he has no pressure
At Iowa, he and his entire class had the spotlight from day one and maybe he wasn’t comfortable with it, some guys just aren’t. It seemed to me that he had/has all the tools (see the jNU game at Evanston), he just never looked like he could let go of the pressure (both internal and external) of having to be greatest thing sliced bread at Iowa. I think a certain part of playing quarterback, and really any sport, is the ability to say “what the fuck” and let it rip. Ricky may have a little too much of it at times, but IMO JC just never seemed any where close to that point. Maybe at EIU, Jake is just playing ball again and not trying to be the perfect quarterback.

It's funny...
…I was posting about this a couple months ago, and I think maybe part of Stanzi’s ability to shake off mistakes is a direct gift from JC6.
Whenever Stanzi went into a game that JC6 had screwed up, the coaches were saying to him, “Don’t worry about what has happened, just throw your passes. If you mess up, big deal, Jake has already fucked us, so what’s the worst you can do?!”
Essentially.
I think Stanzi has the “fuck it all” attitude because JC6 was such a headcase, and the coaching staff coached Ricky to just shrug it off (Ricky being the Swingin Dick, he took it to unprecedented pick-6-in-the-first-minute heights, but we all forgive and forget almost as quickly as he does).

Not gonna lie
I like DJK, but I’m slightly upset at the idea of anyone breaking any of Timmy D’s records. Don’t kill my childhood, Derrell.

Famous Iowa football players who never quite got with the program:
Matt Roth (still isn’t with the program in Miami…)
Mark Bortz (wouldn’t know how to get with a program if his life depended on it)
Alex Karras (hates the program to this day)
Kyle Schlicher (acted like he was with the program, but we all knew better)
Jared DeVries (a program could not contain him)
Plez Atkins (maybe he was with the program, but his first name definitely was not with the program)

;)

Matt Roth has some Elvis records
Karras has a Bing Crosby record. So there are at least two records that I know of.
