Around SBN: Chan Sung Jung Wins Thriller Over Dustin Poirier

Per Morehouse, torn ACL. Keenan Davis moves into the two-deep. Too bad; the Veep was really coming through this season as Iowa's random speed threat.

Potential

We all have seen glimpses of what Keenan can do. Lets hope he can get his fair share of balls thrown to him the rest of the year.

I thought I saw him clutching his knee on his last return V Michigan

That’s really too bad – especially with track season likely out of the question now, too.

It sure looked bad when he made that cut and basically crumbled.

I was sort of waiting for this to come out once he didn’t return to the game. Too bad, hope he can make a full recovery soon.

Sad

Both for him and the return game.

On the other hand, yay more Keenan Davis.

Guess this answers my question from the game

Which, at the time was a rather alarmed, “WHAT THE HELL IS SANDEMAN DOING RETURNING KICKS???!?!!!!!??”

I ate the blue ones ... they taste like burning.

I thought Sandeman did a good job, actually.

He was actually fielding them and getting a few yards out of the returns.

Chaney always seemed like much more potential than actual production in the return game. Sad to see him get injured, though – he seems like he’s worked hard to become a better player and he had some flashes as a receiver this year (I was really hoping we’d use him as a deep threat more after that great pass Stanzi threw to him against UNI – the one that was nullified by a holding penalty, IIRC).

Agreed, re: Sandeman

He did do pretty well Saturday night. Which is somewhat surprising because every other time he’s tried to “return” punts, he’s looked absolutely horrid.

Considering that both guys had by far there best games as returners on Saturday

I’m gonna go ahead and say that it was probably mostly Michigan (possibly due to the Space Emperor outkicking his coverage every time). My favorite was the one where Sandeman let it drop and sit there for awhile, finally just decided fuck it because no one was around him, picked it up, blew right past the unblocked gunner, and went for like 30 yards.

This is not good

Where have I seen this collection of facts before: seemingly deep set of receivers; Moeaki has a 100+ yard game with multiple TDs; a WR, seemingly less important than the others, gets injured; heading into a game AT Wisconsin!!! It’s the 2007 WRpocalypse Part DEUX!!!! Oh shit!

Seriously though, this is really too bad for Chaney. I was happy that he was finally getting some serious playing time and was just waiting for the time when he would break one long. Hope his recovery is swift.

Doom and Gloom

Granted that it is painful to lose a speed threat like Chaney, I don’t think it is time that we get all “Doom and Gloom” about this injury. I saw a lot of similar knee-jerk reactions from the folks who post here at BHGP when Bulaga went out before UNI. Luckily, the difference between this year’s team and the 2007 team is our depth.

I echo everyone else’s sentiment about Paul Chaney Jr. though. I hope that he will enjoy a speedy, complication-free recovery, and be ready to take the football field next season.

Good

I thought it was the same knee-jerk reaction I saw out of fans when Bulaga went out. I should have known better considering it’s author, but that didn’t really cross my mind as I wrote that at the end of my lunch break. My apologies.

I still think we’ll be fine throughout the Wisky game in our receiving corps.
