Iowa 30, Michigan 28: the game in pictures.
I have enough stress in my life, Hawks. Let's avoid doing this in the future.
Credit for the pictures to DMR/Detroit Free Press and credit to a couple of the jokes to the good folks here and to some of my friends. You know who you are.
Without further ado, then:
6-0, folks. GO HAWKS.

Very Nice
Just need some photos of the Taint crying into his hands on the sideline, and RichRod melting down throughout the game to throw in here, and it becomes truly legendary. I’m looking forward to watching the game on DVR to see those highlights (or lowlights if you’re a Michigan fan).

DVR question
Is it easy to get shit from your DVR to your computer?
by Duez I say on Oct 12, 2009 11:09 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
It's easy if you have the right equipment
You basically need a USB cable with a coaxial input. Happauge makes one called WinTV, but it’s like $80. There are some other cheaper versions out there too.

Depending on your DVR
there may be a 1394 jack on it (Firewire hookup for a camcorder). The one that RCN issued me in Chicago has one on it, but we do have HD service. Radio Shack actually has a fairly inexpensive USB unit like HFMR is talking about above.

QBFarce.com is available.
Anybody got $15 and 15 minutes to spare to buy it and point it towards QBForce?

This is my favorite shot from the pregame in case you didn't see it in the Gazette stuff.
Credit to Mike Hlas for capturing this genius genii. If this is you in the picture, you are the man.

Why not Iowa????

Yup...
…he (actually there were two or three of them) sat like 20 feet away from me in the student section, and I gave him the drunken nod&point.

The Stanzi-Tony pic
Is amazing for how wide open he looks (and was).

That was there for the entire first half.
Michigan had 9 in the box and only a LB over the TE.
Instead of beating them up and down the field with TE go routes, we put an extra blocker in and tried to out muscle them.
Me, I’d have just run Moeaki on deep routes until they put a damn safety back.

I wish Chuck Long hadn’t used up all 5 years of his eligibility.

Great to see him at the game
I think Morehouse mentioned this in passing last week, but apparently Long and Ferentz aren’t exactly best-of-friends so it was somewhat surprising that Long was the honorary captain.

Really? Don’t know what the history is, but Long went to OU from KSU when Stoops got hired, right? Too lazy to look it up. Marc?

Who could possibly not like Kirk Ferentz
Impossible!

What are you talking about?
I never said that. At least I don’t think I did.
What are you talking about, Tex? And no, Long was never at K-State. Long went from Iowa to Oklahoma to his short stay at SD State, where he works in admissions, I believe.
He’d probably be really good on the Big Ten Network — former coach, QB, articulate.

Re: admissions
heard that on the BTN radio. He’s working there until his contract runs out. That’s… weird.

I couldn’t remember, and thought Chuck might have spent time with Snyder’s first go ‘round at KSU along with the rest of the Iowa guys. Knew he coached QBs then OC at OU until getting the gig at SD State. Don’t know what the future holds for him once his contractual obligations are over at SD State. Anyway, thanks Marc.

My bad
I remember reading that somewhere last week, couldn’t remember exactly where. Assumed it was you since that’s where I often come across little morsels of information that no one else has.
And to be clear, wherever I got it from, it wasn’t that the relationship between KF and Long was bad or frosty, just that it was allegedly a little strained for an unstated (in the article) reason.
Would love to have Long come back to Iowa as a QB guru (we could use it), just as long as he doesn’t teach the straight-back drop that he used (painfully awkward to watch) while at Iowa, which a lot of our QBs did in the 80s (Long, Hartlieb, even Rodgers).

No problem
It’ll be interesting to see where Long ends up in coaching.
He’s got five kids (I think) and that’s a tough go for the life of any coach. I really think he’d be great in broadcasting and that’s not a knock on his coaching abilities. I agree with you. I think he’d be a helluva Obi Wan for a young QB, Been there, done that. Relax, kid. Study this. I could defenitely see that.

If memory serves
…and it often doesn’t, Chuck was on Hayden’s last staff coaching db’s, and was held over on Kirk’s first staff, possibly coaching QB’s. Didn’t he throw his hat in the ring for the head coaching job when Hayden retired? He left after a year when Stoops offered him a spot on the OU staff, possibly as OC, although I don’t really remember. I’d thought there was some sort of lingering awkwardness between Chuck and KF for whatever reason, but to his credit, Chuck was very positive about KF and the program when he was on the BTN pregame show.
by telepathetic on Oct 12, 2009 3:15 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
He took over the QB coaching job in Hayden's last year
Kirk kept in him on in the same role, and then he left to take the same job at OU under Stoops. He took over the OC job there whenever Mangino left to become HC at KU (I think 2001 or so)

The reason I got on this . . .
Wasn’t to respond to Tex.
Tony’s mom and dad are actually from Tonga. They lived in Hawaii for a while, though. (Can’t remember how long off the top of my head.)
Either way, “right out of the shop” is perfect. Great kid. Fantastic athlete.

So, really, he should be
Tony “Touchdown Tongan” Moeaki.

Given his injury prone-ness
Maybe Tony “The Tread-Carefully Tongan” Moeaki. Though admittedly its a bit of a mouthful.
