Ed Podolak "Retires" After Those Drunk Pictures Surface

Sad day. As Marc Morehouse put it, "Ed Podolak is the best football analyst I've ever heard. No gimmicks, just football. With Ed, Iowa broadcasts have been an education." But he drank got drunk got demolished in front of a camera and a pair of Ds, and that'll be all for the Galloping Polishman*. We're sure he'll definitely stop drinking now, his lesson learned.
Mourn ya till we join ya, lawya. Tribute video tonight.
*I don't know of any nickname Podolak had in college, so here's one ex post facto. You're welcome, Eddie!

I've always heard him called Easy Eddie Podolak
I like The Galloping Polishman better though.
I actually think he was a pretty terrible analyst, but he was such a loveable old drunk and so passionate about the Hawks that I couldn’t help but enjoy him. I’m going to miss him, and Iowa radio broadcasts will never be the same. Firing him for this is pretty retarded too. I mean, the dude clearly has a drinking problem, but wasn’t doing anything wrong in those pictures.

Bad announcer?
Maybe he had a bad radio voice, but I always thought he offered great insight on the plays.

Not a bad announcer
He knew his stuff. Sometimes he brought more to the broadcasts than Dolphin.

It's a sad day for Iowa football
In Heaven there is no beer, that’s why Ed drinks it here.

Sad
Probably inevitable the second those pics surfaced, though.
I ate the blue ones ... they taste like burning.

Brian Cook, correct again
At the end of his Fanhouse post:
“I’d like to personally congratulate Jay Christensen of The Wizard of Odds, by the way, for posting these photos in a bid for cheap hits and costing a guy even Iowa State fans think is pretty awesome his job. Good work there. You’ve contributed greatly to the national discourse of college football with this. Love the utter lack of remorse in the follow up.”
Brian has already said all I have to say about this. Maybe Eddie wanted to give it up before this happened and the pictures just made it convenient, or maybe he was forced out. It doesn’t matter. It’s a goddamn travesty.

It looks like they ended up on Cyclone Fanatic
before they hit the Wiz. You can also send your appreciation “CyGuy33” for posting the pictures on that site in the first place – he can be reached here:
http://www.cyclonefanatic.com/forum/members/cyguy33.html
You can also send a big thanks to Jeremy Lind, the administrator of that fine website, for allowing the pictures to be posted in the first place. This isn’t the first time that his site has recieved publicity in a negative fashion, and probably won’t be the last. One has to wonder if he would allow similar photos of Eric Heft or John Walters to be posted. I would doubt not. It’s interesting to read how by-polar Clone fans are – in the thread where the pics were first posted, the universal opinion was that Ed was an embarassment and should be fired. Now that that has happened, Ed’s a good guy, and now Barta is a pussy. In any event, Mr. Lind can be reached here:

No, message boards are one thing
That’s fans showing off whatever they can get their hands on. The Wiz, on the other hand, is a veteran of the DI and the LA Times and has run a college football blog for for-fucking-ever. He routinely posts stupid shit like this because he wants pageviews from perverts and sensationalists, not because he thinks it has any editorial value whatsoever. If those pictures had stayed on the CycloneFanatic site, Ed Podolak would still have a job. But they didn’t, and Mr. Christensen’s fellow Hawkeye was forced into retirement, and the Wiz clearly doesn’t give a shit, and that makes him just another blight on Blogfrica.

What douches (Cy and The Wiz, not Fast Eddie). I guess I understand why the powers that be felt his alcohol intake might be slightly problematic (think Barta’s sensitive about the Fulmer Cup references?), it just seems stupid the color in color commentary can’t be a character.
Maybe they should hire Bellanca. OPS, as someone who’s word obviously carries weight in the UI athletic offices, I hope you’re on this.

Semantics
Is it really accurate to say that “drunk pictures of Podolak ‘surfaced’”? One could argue that any existing picture of the man depicts him in his natural state, that which when I was at Iowa we described as being “fucking podolaked”.

I suppose you could say
He was captured getting Podolaked to an heroic extent.

I demand that from now on
we all use “fucking podolaked” as our euphemism for “shithammered”

I use "Zabeled"
But, I suppose, in honor of Easy Eddie, I can switch for awhile.
On that note, I am completely fucking Podolaked right now. January term rules.

What an absolute load of shit.
The guy was just out connecting with the average fan, and for this he has to retire? Even I could tolerate the guy, knowing that at least he cared about who he was talking about*.
*Even if he was blatently homerific for a disgusting program.

In times like these....
I feel it is better to rejoice in the past, so that we may allow the healing process to begin. Therefore, without further adieu..

Hire Eddie
I remember when Podolak passed out in the Ped Mall overnight and got busted for public intox. He never was fired. I have several juicy Eddie stories over the years and even some non PR friendly ones about other Iowa media members but I would never post them on my blog. Eddie is my guy and I do not bring public humiliation upon a fellow Hawk for cheap laughs.
Hawkeye fans loved the guy and he loved them. End of Story.
The stuffy suits at Learfield can suck it and so can Gary “No Balls” Barta. Does this guy do anything, ever? Basketball attendance is a joke. He wouldnt fire Alford and Ferentz can do whatever he wants even though Barta is supposed to be his boss.
Only Jamie Pollard’s terrible leadership is hiding Barta’s lack of accomplishments in the state of Iowa.
It was Dan Gable (officially Bowlsby) who brought back Tom Brands too. Barta would have never pulled the trigger to fire Zalesky.
Good Luck Eddie and Keep firing away. Hawkeye Nation will always have your back.
What? They don't have TV in the D-League? Don't watch me, watch TV.

My favorite part
from that article is, “Podolak’s popularity with Iowa fans is off the charts. According to a source, Podolak would’ve had many members in the Hawkeye community come to his side.” Gee. You think? He’s basically being fired from a job he was damn good at for something half the campus does at least twice a week.
Let’s not forget that we were just discussing his drinking habits a week ago. This whole thing is bogus.

Stupid
If he was shitfaced on the job, that’d be one thing. But he was at a bar. There’s nothing wrong with that, and if they fired every broadcaster who went to a bar and got drunk there probably wouldn’t be any broadcasters left.

Fuck the Cryclone Bitches
And tell the Wiz to piss into a headwind for me please. I’ll be dipped in shit before I EVER register and join an ISU site. Fucking scumbag, dick diddling, red & yellow wearing pecker pounders should all be rounded up and sent to GITMO.

I have an account at CycloneFanatic
It’s actually pretty fun. I’m posing as an ISU fan. Their inferiority complex and searing, raw, visceral hatred of us is chicken soup for my soul. Really good chicken soup.
