Congratulations, Hawk fans. Your team is #2 in the preseason preview for the Fulmer Memorial Cup, behind West Virginia and ahead of Alabama. It's a pretty lofty ranking, but you guys have shown recently that you're a scrappy bunch ready for the spot. Other Big Ten teams included in the Top 10 were Wisconsin and Michigan, while Ohio State and Minnesota were blatently overlooked.

The wizards at EDSBS are at it again! Let’s rebut their charges, shall we?

1. Boring football. Yes, it did get boring watching the Hawks give Steve Spurrier the Rotorooter treatment at the Outback Bowl. Perhaps all that extraordinary SEC talent was just too speedy to pass, catch, block and tackle properly.

2. Boring uniforms. Black happens to be slimming and looks good in any season. Next time the Hawks head south to set an SEC team on fire, maybe they should blend in by wearing a Dale Earnhardt shirt with the sleeves ripped off.

3. Most embarrassing fan arrest in years. It was not Hawkeye Nation’s finest moment, that’s true. Unlike the South, however, our sex scandals don’t involve blood relatives and dead farm animals.

Give Rick Neuheisel another year and he will rewrite the record books on thugery, recruiting scandals, grading improprieties, etc. I believe in Rick Neuheisel!

Not so fast

I think Slick Rick is going to have a difficult time putting together his typical street gang. He’s competing for the same recruits as Dennis Erickson just down the road at ASU. There aren’t enough future convicts in the west to satiate both men’s appetites.
