Unappreciated Accomplishments
Gents,
All of you at BHGP need to post an apology (and for that matter, as a Hawkeye fan, I need to apologize as well - I could have posted a diary sooner too).
Our men's wrestling team just won the national freaking championship. WE ARE NUMBER 1! No, I'm serious - no Marchifornication craziness. WE ACTUALLY ARE NUMBER 1.

I recognize, as does the blogging community as a whole from what I can tell, BHGP as THE Iowa Hawkeye fanblog. You guys are great, and funny as hell. BUT, given your status as THE Iowa Hawkeye fanblog, you should be pimping the fact that we just won the national championship proudly and in every damn post for about the next week.
Now, I realize that wrestling isn't on the same level in terms of "recognition" as football or basketball - but for christ's sake (yes that means you Jebus), it's OUR BEST FUCKING SPORT. It has been for the past 25 years! This is like the Canadians winning the gold medal in Hockey or the Brazilians winning the World Cup in Soccer and no one there giving a shit. OF COURSE THEY'D BE PARTYING!
Ultimately, think of what Brian over at Mgo would have posted had Michigan won the National Championship in Wrestling. There would be an homage, the obligatory rubbing of everyone else's nose in it, the insinuation of superiority - all the things we love about Brian. It would be well written and would have been up on Friday. He'd pimp a National Championship in Tiddlywinks if there was one, as long as it was Michigan that won it.
Again, I say. WE....WON....THE....NATIONAL....CHAMPIONSHIP.
Congrats Iowa Wrestling team. We're proud as hell of you, and keep up the good work. Please try to keep control of Brands before he meets Casey McMillan face to face and the world is destroyed while both those crazy bastards try to establish who is Alpha dog on the Iowa campus next year.

You're correct...to a point
Again, as I said last week to YCPYEII, let us get through our day jobs. We'll discuss this soon.
Oh, and Tom Brands is slowly becoming my hero.

Ah yes
This is true - and I recognize that you all have real jobs (well, I think you all do anyway). But we locked up the NC on Friday...and there were, by my count, 2 non-we-just-won-a-national-championship posts over the weekend, as well as dozens and dozens of comments during that time.
Again, I point at myself just as much, if not more, than at you guys. I didn't even know we won the damn thing until last night. I should have posted this diary Saturday morning...

I know
(1) I'm pretty sure it was mentioned in the comment threads. It's wholly insufficient, I give you, but it was mentioned.
(2) As BHGP's unofficial wrestling correspondent, I take full responsibility. Our wrestling-conscious readers are few but vocal, and a national championship deserves more than a cursory post. Given the duties that came with being a basketball enthusiast, as well as a person with a family, this weekend, I didn't have the time to do it justice.
Wrestling championship post should be up tonight, if I get out of my office sometime before 8:00.

Forgiven
As a non-basketball enthusiast, a non-wrestling enthusiast for that matter, and a person that also has a family, I think this is a forgiveable offense. Like I said, I didn't even realize we'd won until yesterday. That alone makes me feel bad about my Hawkeye fandom in general.
But, we're the national champions for the rest of the year...so we've got that going for us...which is nice.

This is what Diaries are for
I was out of town last weekend watching basketball and didn't even know we won the title. If you want more coverage for wrestling, do what you did here, and write about it. This is our blog, yes, but it's also a community, of which you're all a part. If we miss something, write about it yourself. Hell, sometimes we promote diaries to the front page. We can't be everywhere, but as the BHGP community grows, I hope the diaries will as well.
For the record, I don't dislike wrestling, but I don't know much about it, so I'd never write about it.
