(I considered photoshopping, then I remembered I am far too lazy for that)

The reigning, defending, national champion Iowa Hawkeye wrestling team collected some more team hardware tonight by holding off the Iowa State Cyclones to win the Midlands Championships by just three points.

Daniel Dennis set the pace by upsetting Nick Fanthorpe 4-3 at 133 lbs, and Brent Metcalf was dominant, pinning two, on his way to the second of three Hawkeye individual chamionships.  After Chris Bono upset Cyler Sanderson at 157, Ryan Morningstar gave Iowa the most crucial 4 points of the evening by stealing a victory from Iowa State's Jon Reader in the 165 lb final.  Jake Varner, the #1 seed at 197, had a shot to put the Cyclones back on top, but lost  to Wisconsin's Dallas Herbst.

Iowa had eight wrestlers finish in the top five of their respective weight class (continued below the fold):

This is SO underestimating the implosion

Iowa State had five – FIVE – different wrestlers in the finals, two of which were significant favorites to win. If one of those five came up with a win, ISU wins the Midlands.

They went 0-5.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

To be fair

A case could be made for Varner getting hosed out of 2 points in the final seconds. I would not make that case, but some may. That being said, HS is right, both Iowa and Iowa State had five finalists, Iowa finished 3-2, while Iowa State lost, lost, lost.
