Interesting bit on Kirk Ferentz
I know this is WAY to early to start speculating, but it's worth noting:
From Seth Davis on si.com (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/don_banks/12/02/coaches/index.html)
"Kirk Ferentz -- Here's a scenario I'm hearing from a league source: If Browns general manager Phil Savage manages to keep his job, which is far from a certainty, he'll go hard after Ferentz as Crennel's replacement. After 10 years as Iowa's head coach, Ferentz might finally consider the time is right for a return to the NFL. The Hawkeyes rebounded this year to 8-4 and knocked off undefeated Penn State in November."
Interesting. That's the first I'd thought of Ferentz leaving after this season.

I don't think so...
If the right thing comes along, maybe, but he won’t leave his boy there. If we go another run of success, I think he’ll leave this time, as I think that maybe the demanding fanbase has worn thin on him. For what it’s worth (precisely dick) I hope he stays.
At any rate, if he DID leave, who in the blue hell would want to coach the team?

His son is the key
When Ferentz signed his contract extension a few years back, the detail that got overlooked in the OHMYGODWE’REPAYINGHIMHOWMUCH???? excitement was the fact that it extended KF’s term at Iowa until 2012 or, to put it another way, until the time when his youngest son/child would graduate college. While this does not mean that there is no chance that KF could jump ship, I think the fact that he insisted on having a contract through the end of his son’s collegiate career is indicative of the fact that his first instinct is to stick around.
I ate the blue ones ... they taste like burning.

Yeah, the timing just isn't right
If he were ever to leave, I think it’d be for the NFL (where I think his coaching style actually might fit a little better), and Cleveland is definitely the most likely destination because of his friendship with Savage. Especially now that his stock is so much lower than it was a few years ago. I just can’t imagine him ever leaving why Brian is still on the team though. In four years, if he’s gotten us back up near the level we were at from 02-04 and every NFL team with a vacancy is knocking on his door again, I could maybe see him doing it, but it’s hardly a lock. He seems to like Iowa and has a lot of support from the administration (who have shown they’re willing to pay him very well) and fans. I’m not sure he’ll want to leave that. Remember, if he was really that desperate to be an NFL coach, he’d be coaching the Jags right now.

Nah
I can’t see this. Despite what a bunch of assholes we are it’s nothing compared to NFL fans. And KF can suspend his underage drinkers without a finger be raised, the Giants may not have the ability to shitcan the Sparty alum who shot himself without a license to carry. Two words Ocho Cinco (or Pacman, TO, hell Stephon Marbury). Michigan made more sense than an NFL job.

Obviously I don’t know what the fuck I’m talking about – re: Plaxico Burress – no surprise. NFI, done for year.
