Phil Parker... your thoughts please

Florida State is about to be in the market for a new defensive coordinator.  We want someone who is

  • Young (Under 50)
  • Energetic
  • Able to recruit in Florida and the south
  • Successful with lesser athletes (this is the big one.  FSU will draw the 4* and 5* recruits.  We want the DC to be able to provide the scheme AND be able to teach the scheme.
  • Emphasis on technique and scheme over sheer intensity
  • A Saban/ Ferentz/ Belichek guy.

I really like Phil Parker

Iowa's defense is rated 5th by FEI and their pass efficiency defense is rated 8th in opponent adjusted pass efficiency defense.

Would any of you care to share your thoughts on Phil Parker?  Do you think he is ready to become a DC?

Thanks, Tomahawk Nation

I say go for it.

The man is a world-class motivational speaker, and an author to boot.

I got more rhymes than Wade Lookingbill's got dunks

Good luck with that.

The man’s from Lorain, where football is played in snow by people with too many vowels in their last name. Plus it’s quite funny that you think anyone would ever move from Iowa City to Florida, for god’s sake.

But thank you for noting that we play good defense.

You missed out on a real gem in your own backyard:

Dan McCarney.

Don’t know much about Phil, other than he works under Norm, who is one of the best and most experienced D-coord’s in the country. And the Iowa philosophy revolves around fundamentals, discipline and execution – it’s hard to imagine that this hasn’t been picked up by the assistants.

It would be a wonderful hire...

…for both schools. A win-win, to borrow a phrase. You get an upgrade, then we get one. You do know that he was an All-Big Ten performer back in his day?

I did know he was AB10 at MSU

you say you get an upgrade… who would that be? Does this mean you’re not a fan of parker?

Our upgrade?

That would be sacrificing KOK to the football gods in honor of Parker’s promotion. No offensive coordinator is better than he.
