Shonn Greene vs Javon Ringer redux

Back Games Carries Yards YPC TDs
Ringer 11 353 1548 4.4 20
Greene 11 256 1585 6.2 15

Greene has 97 less carries and more yards than overhyped, bitch ass Ringer. They played Purdue in back to back weeks. Ringer carried 32 times for 121 yards (3.8 YPC), Greene ran for 211 yards on 30 carries (7.0 YPC). Greene is the better back by far and is a top Heisman contender. Anyone that disagrees is more retarded than today's BTN announcers (who realized he was a Heisman worthy back in the 4th quarter after he had run for 185 yards on 23 carries for 2 TDs 8 YPC)

Big Ten only numbers from storminspank:

As of right now

If you factor in Donald Brown from Uconn, Greene leads the country in Total Yards and Yards Per Carry right now. MSU has a bye today so that means if Brown rushes for 178 yards OR LESS, then Greene leads the country in total yards. At least for a this week.

by Duez I say on Nov 15, 2008 3:35 PM CST reply actions

Correction

Greene does not lead the country in YPC. Just stick with total yards.

Chris Martin

has been singing Greene’s praises for a while now, and he was the color(ed) guy today. On a side note, can someone please tell tHom Brennaman how to pronounce “Angerer?” That douchbag mangled his name at least 5 times today.

No, no, a thousand times NO!

Don’t you realize that your “facts” are meaningless? You can’t seriously expect sportscasters to make observations based on what happens on the field can you? That’s just ridiculous. Everyone knows, that all opinion must be formed prior to the season or, at the latest, by Week 2. That’s why we know Ringer is the best back in the country, because he had a shit-ton of yards versus two mediocre opponents. To try and change the conventional wisdom based on actual events since then is just sure lunacy.

Coincidentally, that’s why Juice Williams is a Heisman-like QB. Because he’s really good, despite any and all evidence since the first day of the season to the contrary.

But

Brad Banks breaks your theory of preseason recognition. However, he led an 11 win team which was the difference.

I wonder...

If the riches of the NFL will compensate Shonn for the tremendous slight he has received from the media this year. Can the subtle leather of a Bentley overcome such slights? Yes, yes they can. Ringer isn’t going to win either, it has been pre-ordained this year that a Big 12 South QB has to win it and so it will be.

subtle leather?

I’d agree that Ringer’s been solid but not Heisman-good. I don’t think Greene’s been Heisman-good either, to be honest, but the main reasons Ringer’s getting more hype are 1) the quick start to the season, and 2) MSU is 9-2 and Iowa is 7-4. The Heisman is supposed to be an individual award, but in practice if your team loses more than two games, you have to pretty much rewrite the entire record book to have a prayer. As good as Greene is, he’s not rewriting the record book this year.

Donald Brown did not break 178 yards.

Ladies and gentlemen, your new NCAA rushing leader, Mr. Shonn Greene.

by Nefarious on Nov 16, 2008 12:20 AM CST reply actions

spartan dan- tim tebust won the heisman with 4 losses. case in point. if you are not a media ass kissing team you get dissed.

not one mention of iowa even playing today on any major network and only versus. YES VERSUS noticed that shonn had a pretty darn good day. not only did they not mention iowa score but talked about every other big ten matchup but iowa and they kept showing beanie wells and his jump run. he got 140 yards. HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLO

the fact that he is being disrespected for a feat that nobody has ever accomplished …11 straight 100 yards game and a chance for 12 and the fact that he just took the national lead is disgusting and you better believe if a florida player(or any player for ohio state, LSU, USC, etc…you know the medias ass kissing teams) did this we would have seen it about 100 times by now

Im truely disgusted that the only way shonn greenes name gets mentioned is that if they play an opponent that is an ass kisser to their idiot polls

greene is 37 yards ahead of ringer with both of them having one game left. and ringer has to play against penn state. donald brown is 48 yards away and has 2 games left. if shonn greene gets close to 200 yards or over 200 vs one of the worst rushing Ds in the big ten- minny, he still has a legit shot(be it a small one) of winning the rushing title. both of those players has had games under 100 including ringer with 4

if you see the run of 75 yards with this spin move that fakes the defender to the ground and the last TD of him getting literaly plowed and then the defender is the one who falls to the ground while shonn keeps running its amazing. in fact it should have been one of the plays of the days. yet NOT ONE SOLITARY mention of iowa even have played a game.

the media truely has no clue what they are missing.

Tebow also put up ungodly numbers last year – something like 55 combined passing and rushing TDs. Greene’s numbers are great; they’re not that absurd.

by SpartanDan on Nov 16, 2008 11:44 AM CST up reply actions

Ringer is (most) likely to win first team RB in Big 10....why?

It has all been summarized here pretty well. The three big reasons why Shonn is likely to be second teamt:
- team overall record (not good enough to justify his importance in mind of a public that only pays casual attention to all this).
- not on nationale stage (like Harrell at Texas Tech was or any number of players who have had Saturday night games or national attention—Greene needed that to boost his national presence. I live in the East Coast and the Penn State was not on TV here because the Big Ten Network is not on Cable channels here).
- Early QB debacle (believe it or not, most of IOWA attention outside of IOWA in the early part of the season was on the QB controversy and that robbed Greene of precious hype time).

Meanwhile, Michigan State plays Penn State next weekend on ABC national and Shoone is stuck in the obscuriy of the BTN. If Greene goes ofr over 150 and Ringer is held to fewer than 100 then I think Greene is first-team Big Ten.

Neither have a shot at the Heisman and neither will even be invited to NYC. That’s just the way it is in the media run world of today. The truth is a construction.

Penn State Game TV

Should have been on cable, no matter where you lived. It was picked up by ABC/ESPN so the BTN didn’t have their filthy hands on it. It was broadcast regionally on ABC, and the rest of the country got it on ESPN. I’ll never forget the 3 hours of Nesslerisms, I’m still recoving.

Anyway, I would argue that Greene has had the national attention game. Big time.

This is what I miss about being ranked.

If we were 25th in a poll, we would be seeing much more coverage, not just of Shonn, but King and An-jer-er (thanks, Brennaman). As it is, we’re relegated to the has been and wanna be pile, and kept out of polite conversation. Considering the popularity of the sport, you would think the worldwide leader would think, hey, there’s a lot of other teams out there, let’s maybe do some online analysis and clips or have a 30 minute spot on one of their networks (“The next 25” or something"). But no, top 25 or bust for team recognition.

Incidentally, the 75 yd run was Mark May’s 4th (umm….3rd? Don’t remember) top play. So that’s something.

by chitownhawkeye on Nov 16, 2008 8:22 AM CST reply actions

This is easy.

I don’t like it, but the fix is pretty easy. Don’t be 7-4 (or, please God, 8-4). We lost to Pitt, MSU, Northwestern, and Illinois — a pupu platter of mediocre teams. Lou Holtz gave Greene a helmet sticker last night, not that that’s worth anything, but there is recognition. Let’s face it, Big XI sucks, cartoon numbers in the Bix XII South will carry the day (3 awfully good football teams). Ringer may get invited to NY, Greene will not. Greene will be the better pro by far.

Vote for Greene for Doak Walker Award

Don’t know if anyone has seen this yet, but you can vote for Green for the Doak Walker award. Sounds like it counts for something.

I understand the MSU people voting for him…but anybody else? There is no logic here.

he's got the big yardage total

and taking 353 carries without breaking down or becoming ineffective is worth something. He’s clearly an inferior pick to Greene and maybe one or two more, but he’s still a pretty good back.

Just think...

Amazing that we almost recruited all three to Iowa. Can you imagine that backfield?

by rockyh on Nov 18, 2008 12:43 PM CST reply actions

Overhyped maybe. But "bitch ass"?

So Ringer endorsed Shonn Greene for Heisman. And called Shonn “the best running back in the country right now”.

So who’s the bitch ass now? (Hint: Begins with "stormin").

Ah crap, sorry

Stormin only provided the numbers and not the unnecessary attack on Ringer. My apologies.
