Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

Sometimes it's not so easy to stop what you know is coming

That felt good.  I don't think there is any other way to say it.  No miscues, no "what the hell" sort of plays, just solid football.  They couldn't stop the run, so we ran.  Occasional play action.  Simple.  Effective. (as opposed to the normal "Simple.  Ineffective.")

Star-divide

Just a couple of quick thoughts on the game:

Once Stanzi settled in, he looked great.  So did the O-line.  Buy him some time, and he's going to be good.  Hopefully a lot of the turnovers have been worked out of his system as he's gotten more experience.  I'm still a little nervous about him when there's pressure though.

Could the BTN crew gush about KOK any more?  Sure, the offense was clicking on all cylinders, but there still wasn't anything surprising about what we did.  This was where execution and talent finally showed superiority over a weaker program that knew what was coming.

They can keep talking up King all they want

Jewel Heist is going to be a beast after a year in the S&C program.

Shonn is already a beast.  He's going to run you over.  That's not a threat, it's a warning.  He's running mad right now.  Looking for people to hit.

Wait a minute, was that a deep pass to Brodell?  With the running game working, we need more of that.  Don't get me wrong, play action is a good thing, but a deep threat, even just the occasionally throw down there to keep everybody honest, goes a long way to opening up the middle.

Wisky has certainly dropped.  After their last couple of games, I'm starting to feel good about this coming week.  It'll still be a tough game, but if we can avoid turnovers and penalties...this is not the loss it looked like earlier in the year.

Anybody else get the feeling that this is a team that, win or lose, other teams don't want to play?  Right now we are out hitting everybody.  The injury report is not going to be pretty this week for Indiana.  We may not win, but right now, whoever has us on the schedule knows they're going to get pounded on.

5 games left, and with 4 teams ahead of us having already locked in bowl eligibility I think we need 3 more wins.  2 will probably slot us for Detroit, but since that's a fate only slightly better than death and I still don't trust Outback, I think we need 3.  I like Wisconsin and Purdue.  Illinois I still think we can win, but you never know how they'll play.  Penn State and Minnesota are the big ones.  History says that we don't do well against highly ranked teams (take that for whatever it's worth, it's not like highly ranked teams are typically bad) or at night.  At least we get Penn State at home.  And probably Minnesota as well.  As long as keep not beating ourselves.

A win like this is very relaxing, very cathartic.  We needed it.  We're getting better.  We're feeling confident.  Bring'em on.

Another win or two...

…and I’m not sure whether I’ll be feeling more “that’s more like it” or “damn, what might have been.” Regardless, Saturday was fun, and beating Bucky would be even more fun, and leave me with a pretty good feeling about the state of Iowa football heading into the bye week.

Looking at how other teams have fared, Northwestern is the only one I’d REALLY like back. Iowa just had no business losing to those guys, espcially at Kinnick. None.
