Glass of Beer, Shot of Whiskey: Purdue Open Thread
Hello all. It's your good friend Hawkeye State, here to get you through the next few hours. First, in honor of Purdue (who we really haven't talked about this week, what with all the post-Illinois gloating), I give you guys who look like Joe Tiller:

Wilfred Brimley looks like Joe Tiller

Craig Stadler looks like Joe Tiller

Mike Holmgren totally looks like Joe Tiller

Paul McCartney looks nothing like Joe Tiller, but he was the walrus
Now, with that out of the way, let's talk football. Open thread. You know the rules. I'll be here, drinking away the morning with you.

wow
I already want to kill Pam Ward
8 seconds in and DJK has dropped 3 balls.
Purdue appears to be in a prevent defense.
Here We Go Again
Flat offensive start. Bad punt. Throw it all over the field against our secondary. Yep, it's a game at Purdue.
Oh, and yeah, Pam Ward is atrocious. She's being provided only so this can be as bad an experience as possible.
James Motherfucking Hardy
Hardy just caught his 30th career touchdown. 27 of those were against Iowa.
nice
To see that Edds is covering Bryant today. That's perfect, then, we have Godfrey on Keller. Excellent.
Fuck.
So much...
...for that offensive breakthrough last week. Then again, calling 10 points an "offensive breakthrough" says something about the state of our offense.
Wow
Purdue punts from the Iowa 30? Jesus, and I thought our kickers were bad.

Defensive line
We're getting some good pressure. I like seeing that. Keep him running

And that's why
they don't take more deep shots.

One step forward, two steps back
Did I just hear that right? 8 straight unconverted third downs?
OK, we've reached the half. I'm switching from beer to Jack.
That
was an act of extreme cowardice there at the end of the half. Take a shot to the end zone. You are losing the game, Kirk.
That made me sick.
Another route
Another route 2 yards short of the down marker on third down. What have I done to deserve this?
The incompetence of our offense is only bested by the incompetence of the phone equipment during that interview with Bob Griese.
What the hell was that?
It's bad enough to have an in-game interview during the game, but to continue to try to do when the phone connection is bad...GAH!
Shutdown
"If I'm going to pick on someone, it's not going to be Charles Godfrey. He is a shutdown corner."
Obviously, he's never heard of Shutdown Adam Shada.
HGH
Someone check Signor's helmet size. Dude is on 'roids. There's no other way to explain an extra 20 yards per kick in 2 weeks.
No, no, no
This is a gargantuan step backwards. This is Penn State/Indiana/ISU bad.

Looks like Illinois was the fluke win...
and ISU and Purdue and IU are what we can expect from this team in teh future.
Our lack of defensive defending is going to make KF go on the defensive. It's indefensible.
Wait--I think Dorien Bryant just scored 3 more TD's during the commercial. And now they're able to run the ball.
Don't even get me started on the offense. We're down by 13 and we get pass-happy with AY and Sims ready and willing?
It's like Indiana all over again.
Only without that singuarly awful feeling of having paid hundreds of dollars to watch our asses get kicked at home. At least this time, I'm sitting in my office on the computer.
Small consolation, but you gotta get what you can get out of it.
Or

Bentley Goes Ballistic
So, Ray Bentley may not ever be confused for Pop Warner, but he is lambasting KOK's playcalling right now, and probably for good reason. AY did not get a single carry in the second half. Seven carries, 44 yards total. There's no excuse for that. None.
About the Everson/Satterfield rumors
"There's nothing offical [sic] on this yet, but the way this season has gone, it'd hardly be surprising."
Sir, if you're suggesting that losing seasons are natural precursors to sexual assault, then... wow.
As for the rumors themselves, unless there's some concrete, verifiable info, we're not going to engage in them either. When you're talking about allegations as serious as those, then without something, anything, from the authorities, it's best to leave them alone.
