OPEN THREAD, J Leman Edition

Yes.

We're an hour into the Iowa-Illinois tilt, fans, and it's 3-0 Illinois... for now. Will Iowa win for once? Is Illinois for real? What do you think? You know the rules, don't be a dick, and let's hear it!

this is nice

This is the best half of football we've played in a month and no one wants to talk about it? What's wrong with you people?

Credit to the offensive line. They've played well today which has helped the entire team, defense included. Those long drives may not have paid off with points but they've kept the D fresh and you can see the results.

A few observations:

Pam Ward is in fine form, dangling participles and all.

DC is in the hizzy. Nice to see him back. We could use him.

They keep showing corn fields. Nice fresh angle there World Wide Leader. At least it birthed a Malachai reference.

Every time they show the Zooker I laugh out loud. You believe the stories now too, don't ya?

This is nice, but...

We need to punch the ball in the endzone.  I don't think Illinois' defense will be able to keep us out the rest of the game...this is the best the offense has looked all season long as far as I'm concerned.

If you'd told me the score would be 3-3 at half before the game with Iowa's offense moving the ball all over the field and looking like it can, you know, PLAY FOOTBALL, I'd have done a little Irish jig to go along with all the Tullamore Dew I drank last night.

It seems KOK learned how to call a game since last week...or maybe Illinois' defense is just that bad.

TD? Yes

That's how you get in the end zone, Zookster.
Suck on that.

Hey, Leman?

the sweet smell of victory

That is a very satisfying win. It was old school Iowa football. Moving the ball, playing D, and controlling field position.

I would rather not see our coach crying again though. It makes me uncomfortable that he's sobbing after beating Illinois and Ron Zook at home.

Next!
Ok, this is a nice springboard win.  Solid defense, not a lot of points but life from the offense.  I'll take it.
Now...time to build.  Remember how this feels, and how the last couple of weeks felt.  Which do you want?  5 games left, and while I'm concerned about Purdues scoring (although they're getting spanked for the second week in a row) , all of sudden I'm feeling like these are winable games.  Let's get these and get into a decent bowl.

Indeed

That's the spirit! We can't win the games we already lost, so let's move on to the ones we have left.

Nice win
It's great to be back on the winning side of things again, and I really loved the progress I saw from Jake and the offensive line.  Jake did a nice job reading the defense and made some beautiful throws, especially that touchdown. The line still has some work to do in pass protection, but they looked better near the end of this game and they should just get better with time.  They've also been doing a nice job opening holes from Young and Sims the last few games.  Even if we hadn't won, I'd have still be happy with the improvement some of the young players showed.  I don't know how they'll do as the season goes on, the defense is still vulnerable to to the deep ball (which is why Purdue still scares me, even after getting blown out today), and the offense has to put the ball in the endzone more consistently.  What I do know is that I feel much better about their chances today than I did last week. That's something.

Juice, out.

Juice was totally ineffective. That was it.
